Hello everyone im new to this BYC. Lastnight or some time early this morning my rooster got attacked by one of the neighborhood dogs. Ive been looking on here for what to put on it and what i could give it for pain. So far we've cleaned the wounds with peroxide and added antibiotic ointment and i mixed 5 asprins with a gallon of water and gave him 5ml through a syringe for pain. But the real question im trying to ask here is if you all think we could save him or if it would be better to put him down as we do not have the funds to take him to a vet. One of our favorite so this does suck. Please any helpful tips or opinions are welcomed. Thanks

Since he is your favorite I would try to save him, there are no promises he will make it at this point though... Keep him on penicillin for about 1 week after now since that has a very high infection rate, keep him separate from other chickens for about 1 month so that he has time to heal, his feathers may never grow back on the red parts, after it really scabs over, put some vaseline or Pink Vet Lady on him to promote healing
:fl

Where can i get penicillin from? We cleaned him amd he did have quite a bit of maggots from the flies that were on him before we found him we did fix his wing and brought him inside have him in a box resting atm

Hes not looking good to me. Might just tell my husband we need to put him down. Thank you
