Seriously quick help with a kitten we found!!!!! UPDATE page 5

You could try some evaporated canned milk and mix in a little Karo syrup. Try a syringe and put a tiny drop near it's mouth to see if it will lick or try to suck. Warming it up is your first priority then some liquids like the evap milk.

Go to the grocery store -- human baby section and buy a jar of baby meat (turkey is the mildest and therefore preferred.) Also buy a box of Gerber's Rice cereal for babies. Mix the two and add a tablespoon of warm water. With a finger, the handle of a spoon, a swizzle stick, something small, put tiny amounts of this mixture in the kitten's mouth. Give him just a bite or two every half hour or so. If he makes it through the night this little guy will be purring my mid-afternoon tomorrow and mewing for his next meal.

Keeping it warm is the best thing you can do at this point. If kittens get too cold, the digestive system shuts down. If you can just get drops of the KMR in occasionally and keep it warm that's your best chance. If you overload the digestive tract it will get diarrhea, which can deplete the electrolytes even more. It may be too weak to suck on the nipple. I wouldn't worry about the eyes at this point, they're not important right now. Don't beat yourself up if it doesn't make it. I've rescued a dozen or so feral kittens, and sometimes they get a respiratory infection that takes them quickly and there's nothing you can do or could have done. You're doing the only things that will work; only time will tell. Good luck to you and the kitty!

The poor baby and the trauma it's probably already experienced at human hands.
Warmth is first priority and then I would try some electrolytes for shock; even watered down pedialyte or a tiny bit of karo syrup if nothing else. The KMR when it's ready.

You will need to force feed if it will not eat. Use a small plastic syringe and fill it with a mixture of mushed up canned cat food and water. Syringe into its mouth a little at a time. Put it on a heating pad on about medium and watch that it does not get too hot.

to warm up foundling, underage kittens (it's happened more than once), I tucked it into my shirt front between things to warm it up while getting home for more care. Seems to warm and calm the kitten. IF it makes it through the night, that is a major hurdle. Whatever you can do do get in fluids sounds good - I never had one in as bad a shape as that one sounds.

I pm'd with my # if you want to call. Sounds like you're doing good. After it warms up check for dehydration and it might need some sub-q fluids if you have stuff on hand. Good luck!

Thanks for all the good advice so far. She is finally warm and just drank 10ml of the KMR. She is back asleep on her heating pad for now. will try her again before bedtime.

The best thing you can do is keep her warm. The person above me that posted about their systems shutting down when they get chilled is correct. DO NOT OVER FEED. Human baby food (rice) is a good idea. She will not tolerate cows milk...too rich, do not use canned milk. Pedialite (sp?) maybe your best bet...keep it warm and push fluids for a couple of days...then start to feed solids. you're giving him/her a chance - its more than it had before you found it. Good Luck...
