Serramas?

Anyone have any input on these birds? I might get some eggs to hatch out to keep some hens for eggs. They'd be inside birds. How long does it take for them to start laying? Any other info that I should know?

I dunno much about them, however I'm getting some serama hatching eggs this week sometime!

We where told when we bought ours they where flighty, not good layers not broody, and not cold tolerant....
Not true for ours
They lay every 3 days, broody yes they will peck the skin off in on peck, flighty? they are the only birds that have not flew the coop LOL, it has been cold here at night this winter low 30s high 20s not a problem.
The Roosters love to ride around on our sholders, the hens love to sit in our laps.
Thinking if you want a bird that acts like a dog then... yep t would be for you. LOL
Foosball our Rooster loves to find the highest place in te pen then he'll crow and strut like he is a giant!

I've had Serama for 3 years, they are the first chickens I had. most of my hens lay daily, the roosters very friendly. one pair likes to sit all day in the window. they also like to 'talk' to you they chatter alot. ?The hardest thing to do with serama's is hatching. very early spring works best for methe broodyness is like most other chicken some do it some dont.

I agree with the previous posters! I love the seramas, they lay very well (mine lay about every other day)....and they ARE broody! In fact today, I found a hen that was trying to hide a nest from me! I highly recommend them.

Well, the breeder that I was going to buy them from talked me into silkies and cochins instead. He said that for the purposes that I wanted them for, silkies or cochins (or polish) would be better (and, no offense to anyone, but I think they're cuter too). He said he wouldn't feel right selling me Serama eggs to hatch out, because they were difficult to hatch as well. The funny thing is that the cochin that he showed me last time, I LOVED her! He just grabbed her out and she didn't give a hoot. That's more of what I want than the seramas. Plus the fact that the cochins are $3 per check, silkies $5 per chick, and his seramas were more expensive (he charges $20 for a started bird, and he didn't want to sell me any serama chicks because they're difficult to raise, lol).

silkies and cochins are fun you'll love them!!!! (i've never had silkies but they seem A LOT like cochins and i LOVE cochins)

My silkie is not the most friendly children cant catch her and so on but she has never hurt them. Our banty cochins are extremly sweet and very good with the kids and great if you need a broody hen. He is right Seramas are hard to hatch. Good for him for being a honest seller. Good luck with your hatch!

this is my Archie, he will sit on your shoulder and is more like a friendly dog, I would recommend Serama to any one. The reason his tails down he having a hard time balancing. hes also in molt in this photo.
