The only thing I can say to that is WHY??

Yea, quail eggs are very fertile, I never got below 75% hatch rate on shipped eggs, although I would never depend on "digital" thermometer alone.

Being "digital" there is not any assurance of being accurate. I check all my digital therms agains my trusted and proven mercury analog therm.

Digital therms will go off as the time goes by.

Digital hygrometers are even less reliable. I only use analog frequently calibrated hygros to keep track on humidity in my bators.

PERIOD

If yiou can't hatch 75% + of your own quail eggs in your incubator, dump it or sell it, and get a better one.

I don't think it's a matter of fertility, quail eggs just handle shipping better than chicken eggs. I use the cheap-o thermo/hygrometers (digital) from Wal-Mart, the ones that cost like $6?? I've not had any problems with them. The humidity readings on them are all different, but I don't add any water until they get to the hatcher anyway, so that doesn't matter

You did not have a problem with them? Never mind each shows differnt reading? LOL

Whats the point of measuring humidity with cheap inaccurate hygros knowing the readings are garbage?

Digital hygrometers in general are not accurate, and can not be calibrated.

If you had read the entire post you would see that the point is that I DON'T measure the humidity. When they are incubating I go by the size of the air cells to determine if they need more water in the bator, when they are hatching I put a small amount of water in the center portion ONLY and a wet cloth on one side of the bator.

And besides, I don't 'know' the readings are garbage, I have calibrated each and everyone of them. None of them read the same, but I have them marked with how much over or under 'normal' they run. If I ever decide to track humidity in the bator in the first place.

That is just one of the 3 thermometeters I have in the incubator. But that cheap thermometer seems to be dead on with the temp and humidity. I did calibrate the humidity on it and after testing it was dead on. I also have 2 digital thermometers in the incubator and am careful about the temps. I think the temps during the shipping were my problems on the first two batches of quail eggs. I have a very good feeling about this 3rd batch of eggs. So far my temp fluxuation has been 99.3 to 100.4 so no problem there. I have had very good success with this incubator with Silkie chicken eggs. Last batch I hatched 24 out of 28 eggs.

Pascopol you and Shellyd2008 need to quit your bickering. This is supposed to be a fun place to come too and exchange ideas and share information. Not to call someones equipment cheap or argue saying one persons method is better than anothers. I think both of you need to take a Xanax or learn to relax a bit. If you want to offer ideas fine or ask why someone is doing something one way or another great but relax and anjoy.

TCollier, kudos on having more than one thermometer

Keep us posted on your hatches with this awesome incubator

You did a great job making it. Keep it up!

Hey man we are not "bickering" we are just voicing opinions, thats what this place is for. If your cheap thermometer is calibrated,

God bless you now you have "good and reliable" thermometer. Since you are showing only cheap thermometers on your picture one can not know that you are using more thermometers.
That's the bottom line.

If you think I shuld take Xanax, I reccommend Prozac for you.
