Day one down. Only 20 more to go. I might freak out.

So I checked on the eggs this morning. I made some oatmeal and yogurt for the broody and kicked her off the nest to eat. All of the eggs were warm except for one of the OEGB eggs. I think 13 eggs is just a bit much for my Silkie to cover them all. I took the one egg out and I am going to experiment with hatching it inside in a "bator" that I threw together.

I put an electric lizard heating pad down. Filled a metal bowl half way with warm water and put it on top. Then I put one spot of an egg carton into a small ceramic bowl, put the egg in and put the ceramic bowl in the metal one to float on the water. I put a bit of a paper towel over the egg and then put the lid on the metal bowl. Should I start taking bets on whether it will work?

if it hatches put it with the mother, i would personally wait till like day 5 and just remove the unfertile eggs

i dont know what the weather is like there, but my hen just sucsessfully hatched 17 eggs becuase its so hot here, they just hover over the eggs, only sit on them at night, so if its really hot there, maybe she will have an easier time covering the eggs

My one little egg in my homemade bator seems to be keeping warm quite nicely. I have no idea on the temp, which is dumb, but it feels right and the humidity is good.

I started some eggs on 8/31. I have an australorp sitting on 5 barred rock eggs. It's her first time going broody, I hope she is a good mama. I've never had a chicken hatch her own before. I hear that you can sometimes see little veins as early as day 3 when candeling. That means I might be able to see the little guys in just two more days, yay!
