Set 86 Eggs Tonight *FORTY-FOUR Hatched--Hatch Over *

I hope you do, too, Mahonri! I'm very pleased with this hatch. Now, if my electricity will just stay on...

So far I haven't had that worry here in AZ! and usually we are dry without storms in April.

Our mountain power is quite precarious here. Can't depend on it to stay on, even in good weather. During one of the last hatches I had, we had a 6 hour outage, then a few days later, another one that lasted 15 minutes. If they'd bury the lines, it would help with tree limbs causing lines to be down.

Ours is the same way. Last spring we had a 9-hour overnight outage on Bator Day 12 -- I was a WRECK but my hatch was just fine. This year, as soon as I set eggs in the bator (like an hour later) the power went out for about 5 mins (of course!

) and we had another 2-hr outage last week (around day 12 again).

Our phones go out about 2x/week, too, and we have no cell service. It's definitely not the most dependable area for utilities, but we manage.

Candled the ones in the bator with the turner, plus one SLW that I wasn't sure of in the hand turned bator. Removed one BR that seemed to have started but had a floating air cell and no veins, plus a SLW that was a quitter. That leaves me with 62 eggs still and we're now into Day 13.

The BBS Rocks are odd and I may have to remove most of those in a few days. They have bouncing baby embryos, but they are way underdeveloped for this stage. Either they'll quit or they'll have lots of catching up to do. Only 4 of the remaining 9 seemed to be where they should be, left the others in till closer to Day 18 and will know for sure at that time.

ETA: DH found yet another projector in the basement so I have a candler again (he used to be an art major, hence all the projectors) and I've already killed three of them.

Kathyinmo, 10 of your BRs are still in the running, 4 BLRW, 3 SLW, 4 NH and the Olive Egger.

halo, 7 EE and/or Ameraucanas are doing great and as I mentioned, some of the BBS Rocks look fine, but a few are just not quite right--they look like they are almost a week behind where they should be. Could be the reason some of them didn't look good at first candling, but till I see a blood ring or know there's absolutely no hope, I'll leave the remaining 9 in the bator.

There are 9 D'Anvers left, 5 BRs from another source and most of the Buff Orpingtons. I know there are 62 total between the two bators, though, more than I expected to have by this time with most all of them shipped, so I'm pleased.

No idea why there are so many that appear underdeveloped, but those are the ones that I questioned after the first week. You'd think they'd just quit, but nope, they are hanging in there. I was thinking maybe it was their place in the turner, on one side, maybe a cool spot, but there are some that are fine on that side, too, so that's probably not it. I went back to look at my notes and I had written that five of the BBS Rocks looked odd, one had a possible small meat spot, etc. And I have removed one of those already, so those must be the other four I noted in the first place, if you get what I just said (I'm not sure I do!) I'm sure it has to do with shipping.

Oh, poor Neela, you should see her! She is ragged and bare with tons of quills, while Alice is beautiful, not molting at all. If I just get a couple more blue (or splash) girls like them, I'll be happy.

Ive got 4 blue girls that just went broody. They are so very funny! I swear the neighbors 10 acres away can hear them screech when I look under them for eggs. They puff up looking like a fluffy bowling ball, they just make me laugh!!
