Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

I want to stick with the silkies because I love their soft kitten-like feathers and I think they are so "sexy" and elegant looking -in a poultry kind of way-LOL! The sizzles' feathers sort of look messy...but that's just me and my OCD, probably. I don't trust myself to have too many different breeds and varieties and colors. Maybe some day though. I would also like to get 1 or 2 Polish and D'uccle's because they are just so funny and cute looking. They crack me up.
Didn't you tell me you want some BLRWs? I found another local gal that has a beautiful breeding pair and she is selling their eggs. She actually bought them as eggs from a shipped auction from NY and now they're making babies for her! I wish I would have had my camera when I went to her house. She had about 60 chickens (all named) of about 10 different varieties. It was a fun little field trip for my son and me.
I am getting Blue/Black/Splash eggs. If one hatches out to be a splash rooster (in 3 months) maybe I can bring him for your splash girl! I wonder what the rules are for chickens on the airline? It would fit in a carry-on, but can you imagine if he crowed mid flight?

Yes, bring me a splash rooster and some partridge girls. They wouldn't take up much space so I think maybe just put them in a carry on. It will be dark and chickens don't crow when it's dark, do they? Just a joke.......mine have crowing contests all night long.
I did want some BLRWs, but I decided they would be too much of a project at this time. I wish I could have seen them in person, though. I'm going to start calling you Lucky Chick because of all this cool stuff you're finding. There are Polish eggs over in the auction section. I wanted them so bad and I had to work really hard on letting it go and unsubscribed to it. It's hard to police one's own self

I think you're right on the messy lol. I like it though. I can't wait until my guy gets old enough to like the girls. Of course, only one silkie is laying now anyway. The others are broody, and about to get some EE eggs so I have less to worry about in the incubator.

How do I make one of these myself? I like the messy look too. No OCD here, it will just fit right in with the rest of the mess I spend all day long keeping under control! Did you create him or buy him????? And he looks like he walks so regally.....is that a word?

I have plain old black, but I don't know where I put them.
Cali Chick, no need to feel jealous. When you come to the great state of Ohio, I am extending a very cordial invitation to come over and much the stalls. I will make dinner for afterwards. Oh, and I told my DH yesterday as he was mucking that he better be thinking of a fly control program because I don't do maggots!
We put down PDZ or something like that for horse pens so here's hoping it works

I candled today. I have 0 call ducks developing, 2 EE under the broody developing (I need to take a few more out to her), 12 EE in the incubator, 6, possibly 8 of the turkey eggs I set saturday, 4 duck eggs due wednesday, and 10 of these.

I set 10 eggs, and have 10 ducklings. First time I've hatched everything out of a batch of eggs set!

Sorry, I never can figure out the double quotes.
Are these cute little things ducks? They look like they all popped out at the same time. How did you do that?
And does anyone here hatch in egg cartons or planning to hatch this time in egg cartons? I was thinking about doing this this time.

And here is my huge question of the night, although it's not about hatching so if no one has any advice I will go over to the right section.
I have two Seramas in with my Silkies. One boy, one girl. Everyone is roughly the same age, except for one Silkie who is a little older. The Serama boy is terrorizing everyone, but mostly attacking the oldest Silkie. I'm going to assume this Silkie in question is a boy by the way the Serama boy is acting. But the Serama picks on the Serama girl quite a bit too.....just generally he's being a brute. They have plenty of space and plenty of food bowls out with food in them and plenty of water. I have places up for the Seramas to roost since they like to fly. There's not anything I can think of that they are lacking that would cause his behavior. He's about two months old and has been crowing for about a month. I have another Serama boy in with a broody hen and he's been crowing for a few weeks. He's younger. Maybe the boys mature a little fast?
So it was so bad tonight that I had to put the Serama in a pet carrier with food and water. I put him in the same pen he was in so he could see everyone because he was going crazy being totally away from the others. He originally was raised with two more Silkies and then the girl Serama. His little friends keep going over and looking in the crate like why don't you come out and play with us.
Is it a good thing to put him in the crate by himself? Will putting him in jail rearrange the pecking order and perhaps give him a chance to behave himself? I've not had any mean babies yet so I'm at a loss here. I would like to keep him for a pet, but not if he's trying to kill what I'm really trying to establish and I don't want the Silkies pecked in the head.
So any baby bullying advice is appreciated.
BTW, he wasn't raised with the Silkie in question. There are six Silkies that I put together with these four. Before I integrated them, I put them in a large pen and kept them separated with a lattice fence so they could see each other, but not get to each other. When I did put them together, they all went outside for the first time and went to an outdoor pen. They have been together for about a week or a little more and they haven't been having problems. And they get to play outside during the day so they should be wearing themselves out. They do know who they originally grew up with and although they co-mingle, they have their cliques going on.
Thank you!

My "mudders" are pink camo... I wanted purple camo, but they had sold out in my size!
How cute..."mudders"...perfect name for them! I loved spraying them off with the hose after sloshing through the muck! I'm going to keep my eye out for more "colors" at Goodwill. My DH bought a pair for my son too. He put them on and ran outside to try them out for awhile....On his own, he cleaned them off with the water hose. When he came back in the house, he ran up to his Dad and threw his arms around him and said, "I LOVE those boots!" (This is a 10 year old who likes playing in the mud like a 4 year old.)

WWC-I've never mucked out a stall before, but I have the feeling it has something to do with horse _ _ _ _!

I'd be happy to learn, especially for a dinner of one of your mean RIR roosters-LOL! What is PDZ for fly control? I've been using DE in the coop and on the poop trays, but I'm wondering if that will kill the good worms in my compost pile when I dump them out? I read that DE can kill flies, insects and worms but maybe it is direct contact with bigger amounts?

Julie-I wondered the same thing about your ducks. It looks like they hatched out at the same time.

I'm hoping my 5 EE's do that on March 30th. Tomorrow is Day 7 for them and I can't wait to candle and mark aircells. It will only be my second time to candle. (I'm doing so good at not candling so often this time.)

I bought him. A friend hatched him from sizzle eggs from emvickrey. I have 2 silkie hens and a smooth sizzle hen for him, but he's only 4 months and not grown up enough yet. And he walks funny, lol. He lifts his feet up high and kind of off to the side because of all the fluff. Once he settles in and roams around with the girls he'll probably break all that fluff off his legs, just like them.

1 hatched yesterday, and 3 took awhile longer, but the other 6 hatched out together pretty much, one every hour or less.

I'd put the serama roo in time out for a few days. It won't hurt him, and maybe he won't be so full of himself when he gets back. I've had my sizzle roo a few weeks now, and the girls are still mean to him. He hangs out with my 8 week old ducklings during the day, but the silkies let him sleep with them at night. The big girls aren't too mean to him, so i don't worry too much. Hoping he'll put on his big boy pants soon.

My kids call them their chicken poop boots. I make them wear rubber boots if they come out to help me in the pen. They are 4 and 5 years old. I myself don't have any. I use closed toed Crocs. All I can find in my size are black so I just keep getitng the Crocs. The only down side is the soft soles they aren't very protective against rouge rocks or stickers. Winter I just wear my LLBean duck boots. Just wish they were slip ons.

That's me today.....completely exhausted! I've been on this emotional high being excited about picking up the Silkie eggs this morning.
big_smile.png
It has been raining all week and instead of getting a break in the weather, we've gotten over an inch of rain today. I haven't seen it rain like this since I lived in Ohio.

Where is my California sunshine? AT LEAST I HAD MY RUBBER BOOTS, right! Anyway, we drove up to Sheri's house in the beautiful countryside. (It was wet, but so green and pretty seeing all the farms and rolling hills.) Fortunately the drive turned out to be only a 40 minute drive instead of 1 and a 1/2 hours. I must have thought it was alot further because my DH made such a stink last time I drove up there regarding the distance?

We got to look at Sheri's birds a little but it was raining pretty hard so we just went into about 4 or 5 pens that were enclosed. My son found lots of mud puddles to break in his boots-hehe! If it had been nicer, I would have taken lots of pictures. I'll post some later. Sheri showed me some of her adorable Frizzles and I was surprised by how soft they still were. She had one smooth feathered splash Frizzle that stole my heart.

Girls, the best part of my day was when Sheri looked at the 2 dozen fresh fertile silkie eggs sitting on the counter and asked if I'd want them all for $30!
ep.gif
And there might be 1 or 2 sizzles that hatch out. They are the Frizzle/Silkie mix - LOL! All in all, this has been an awesome day to say the least. I confess, I'm a nervous wreck about adding all those eggs to the bator. My new incubator won't get here until Tuesday, so I'll have to mix them with the EE. I'm truly biting my nails because I put in the egg turner (under the 5 EE eggs) and now I'm trying to adjust the temperature a little lower so the tops don't get cooked.

Oh-WWC-I marked the aircells for Day7 and they are the size of a quarter and all on top! So, I think my humidity is spot on this time. (I keep it b/n 30-40%)
