Set eggs 3/5. Looking for others to hatch with!

Day 20.........................No activity!

Yet!

I had high hopes that these silkies would start "popping" like my Easter Eggers did last Thursday. (Don't bantams hatch early?) I even had dreams of them pipping and hatching all at once.

I've 'looked' in the bator a hundred times for pips and there's nothin' happening! And, worst of all, I'm SO tempted to candle a few of them and look for movement or internal pips. What do you all think? Would it be OK to candle or is it too risky at this stage of lockdown?

LEAVE THEM ALONE.....ummmm, weren't you just telling me to be patient, oh wise chick????? I think they come when they are ready. Mine have all attempted to hatch/did hatch on day 21. I've had them come under a hen from day 19 to day 22 on the same clutch of eggs. Do not take any chances. These are what you really, really wanted. They are okay. You hatch successfully. Do not panic. Take your son for a field trip to the park to look at leaves or something scientific and get your mind off of it.
You're going to have little chick chicks soon

I was hoping that's what you guys would tell me....I just needed to hear it from the "masters"!

Anyway, I think I'll go outside and work on that chicken feeder I was building for the hens and then take more measurements for the new silkie pen. Then, I think my son and I will go check out the Habitat for Humanity Restore and look for stuff to build that pen. Those little silkies LOVE being outside and get really ticked off when I carry the back to their coop each evening. It's rather kind of funny! Here they are in the big girls' tractor...

They're looking good. Don't you just love how the silkies go through that awkward stage when they're little?
So today I am going to test out my "fantasy". It it too chilly for the Seramas to be in the garage so I get to bring them in in the guinea pig cage and put them on the coffee table in the living room!!!! They're so tiny it will be like having little birds in my house......which I have always wanted!!!!!! Checkers is so mean it is going to be a lot of fun watching him watch the dogs, who I am sure will be up there watching the cage all day. This should keep some critters out of trouble for a while.
Have fun keeping busy today.....rest up....it's almost hatch time.

Yes, they are going through an "awkward" stage as their feathers start to grow in. Some of them have a non-stop "Bad-Doo" Day!

Here's a picture inside their little coop. It has a nice lift-top for cleaning and I even put linoleum on the floor.

I plan on cutting a little door in the back for the ramp and some windows with hardware cloth to add ventilation. We found some clearance paint today. By the way, how many adult silkies could I keep in this coop?

(It is about 4' X 3'.)

Well, we finally got home from running around. Guess what we found in the bator?????????

One PIP! It's a good start, right?

The beginning of many more, I hope!

You lucky chick lady!!!!! How are you getting these little guys to pop out so fast? I need to do what you're doing.
Glad you got your mind off of it. I am hoping to see pictures in the morning. Which color pipped?
I don't know how many silkies you can keep in the coop, but I would LOVE to know how you built it...and did you build it yourself? I ssssoooo need something like this that I can do on my own. My DH is probably going to be able to pencil me in about November. Please direct me, Cali Chick.
