I woke up early this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, so I walked outside, fed the big birds and looked into the Broody House...
Sammie has BABIES!!!! I could hear the peeping and Sammie was softly clucking to them, and I could see she was shuffling around, moving her feet without really moving her body...it was cute! My daughter went out there and she said she saw 3 little chick heads poking out. I went back out and only saw 1. There were 7 eggs last night, so there are probably more still hatching at this point. I don't have pics of the babies yet because it's only 62* in the coop so I'm definitely NOT lifting Sammie to see what's under her...
My eggs in the bator are due on Monday, This is my first hatch and I am so hoping it goes well!!! I am a nervous wreck, running in to check the bator every little bit!!!
I have PICS! Wow, those babies look nothing like their mother...how weird! I swear, Sammie is the mommy, I only have 1 bantam hen who lays those tiny eggs. But I have 4 different roosters so we'll be playing "Who's Your Daddy" for a while...LOL.
Here's 2 tiny chickie heads peeking out:
Here's a red baby with a chipmunk stripe (RIR daddy?):
How amazingly adorable is this????? I'm guessing the daddy is Lyle, RIRxWhite Leghorn:
My daughter said she saw a little black chick, but I haven't seen that one yet. That would be Phoenix's baby (Black Sizzle).
