Lol...true...I will after #10 decides if he's going make it.
I've part hatched him. He seems weak, but still alive. He was in a right tangle, and came out foot first. He's still in the incubator, half in, half out of his shell. I've interfered as much as I'm willing too, the rest is up to him. He may still have a bit of yolk to go, so I will leave him in peace and check on him at midnight before I go to bed.

I checked the other 2 eggs, andled then opened them. Both were dead, looked like they quit yesterday (yolk more than half absorbed) and were upside down like they never found the air cell. I had seen one of the two rocking yesterday like it as trying to get oriented.

Anyway, can't complain.

I think I will only keep 3 pekins and all the cayugas (whether its 2 or 3 in the end). Ducks eat soooo much and take forever to start paying their way in eggs, and duck house can really only take 6-8 tops, so think I will sell 4. Maybe.

I just candled the eggs I am incubating to go under broody buffy. They are on day 5. Only one was definitely clear, 3 or 4 I saw blood vessels or sure. This is a result because as I said the rooster left over three weeks ago now, so

Buffy can be a mom again. Think I'm done or this year then. Maybe

Three for three from my broody! Two of them took after the roo and are NN while the other has full feathers. By chance we also had to run to town for some more chicken feed and found RIR chicks at the feed store. Bought 2 more and put them under mama to take care of.

Is there a reason I have 50 chickens?!?!?

Today is the actual due date, but yesterday, we managed to witness 5 hatches... by this morning, we have 9... 5 more to go! One bad thing - we have one that looks stuck in it's shell. I think it may be deformed. It zipped completely but will not come out of the shell - looks stuck... what could be wrong? It's been like that since 5 p.m. last night...

Here's progression of the first one to hatch...

Wow, jophoto, those are really nice pictures. I really like them!

I now have 6, yes, 6 broody hens. I have seen at least 3 chicks, but I can't tell if there are any more yet because the hens are like snakes right now. Plus all of the hens went broody at different times. I don't know how many eggs are under them, but I'd say maybe 40 eggs? It's a total mess out in the coop right now. The non-broody hens don't know where to lay their eggs. I separated the original 4 broodies and put a fence around them with food and water. But now there are two more broodies... It will work out though.

So, on top of the broody hens, 3 of my buttercup chicks hatched between last night and this morning in the incubators in our bedroom.

They are so cute! I'm on day 21, so we still have some time. There are still 8 eggs that haven't done anything yet.

Sending good hatching vibes to everyone!

I woke up this morning to four healthy babies...and LOTS more pipped. I originally set 42, but four were duds. So hopefully I'll hear more peeping in just a few hours!!! I can't wait!

Jophoto: great pics. If its zipped all the way and then stayed like that for several hours, personally, I'd help. Wrap it in a wet warm cloth a peel the top off gently then see if it can hatch it self out. If its zipped it should have fully absorbed the yolk by now so shouldn't meet any problems, but of you see blood then stop.

Congrats on all the brrodies, chicks, pips and zipping everyone!

Number duckie made it trhough the night, is fluffed up and cuddling up with the rest. He feels much lighter than the other and is a lot wobblier and weaker, but

Anyone know the sugar water recipe?
