Set eggs 4/6, EDD 4/27 & 4/28...wanna hatch with me??

So I got into all 3 duds. Yesterday I peeled the one that I thought had pipped & started zipping, but I think it had actually gotten smashed, because the inside was green liquid, blech. The 3 I opened today appear to have quit at day 5, day 7-8 & then the one that was fully developed. My son got pics. Don't know how good the pics are, but I'll look later & post if you want.

pip #10 is taking forever to zip so I caved, covered it in a damp cloth and got the others out quick so now there's 9 duckie babies fluffing up in the brooder

They were peeping and shaking wildly so DD volunteered a cuddly toy thats out of favor and now they're all snuggling up to it like its mom, and much happier...

Ah well, Michaela, better to know than wonder. I always open them, and learn so much doing so - helps me to see the different stages and helps visualise what you are seeing what you candle etc. I could never just throw them away like some people do.
I'm pretty sure the final two eggs in the bator have quit. I am steeling myself to open them, but I'm sad because they were definitely both moving at lockdown. I am sure they failed to pip internally because the air cells were damaged in shipping and its sad because I now they probably got to being fully formed and then couldn't find their way out.

Still, very happy with the 2 (hopefully 3) black cayugas I got in the end out of the 12 considering the shipping disaster.

So 100% fertility and 100% hatch on my own pekin eggs and 50% fertility and looks like (

on the last one) 60% hatch rate on the shipped cayugas. Not bad for first time with duck eggs.

Pictures later when they've fluffed up

Sorry about your duckies. I understand though, I'm in the same boat- risk one to save the others & thrilled we got ANYthing since this was our first time

I have no idea about the first one I broke into yesterday, as soon as I saw green I chucked it, LOL (no way was I wanting to dig any further). But you're right, it is intriguing & is such a learning experience. We homeschool, so I'm thankful for this experience in a very hands on way.

Wow, lots of bad news around here. Sure hope the good news wears off on me. Went into lockdown yesterday. 39 EEs and RIRs. The funniest thing is that this time nothing stinks in there. All my other hatches have had this awful smell by the time lockdown came around. This time nothing. I'm not sure if thats good or bad but I guess we'll know in a couple of days.

Ya'll keep your wings crossed for me!

Ok, duckies as promised:
All (except #10 who is still in the incubator) hugging their 'mom' teddy bear

And a representative pair!
