I'm in my 4th yr of having chickens. Have never vaccinated. Hadn't really thought about it. I've not heard of any problems in this area.

I know what you mean lol, my daughter is very excited too (she's 6 yrs old) and keeps asking "when can we look in the eggs?" I have to explain to her that its not like viewing something on the TV and she will have to wait until they hatch to see what they look likeIt really does feel good to have someone to stay up late to talk "chicken" w/. Especially when their just as nervous & excited about the situation as you are. Although, it really works better when the other person stays awake (sorry, Heather). I kept posting on top of you w/ my phn & that was so aggrevating. When my kids see lights on in the LR, they think I'm messing with the incubators & will run in there to see what I'm up to. When they get up, my chihuahua, NaTasha, has to get up & everybody thinks it's party time. We have to start the bedtime ritual all over again. Hugs, Kisses, I love U, Tuck Me In, Say a Prayer, Did you go the the bathroom? All of it. So, I didn't want to crank the laptop back up. Their curiosity is getting the best of them also. When I check on the babies in the brooder (in the carport) or in the incubator, I have to get my flashlight & sneak around. Their so sweet. It's like my human, feather, and furry children know that mommy will make her rounds to check on everyone even if it's at 2 o'clock in the morning. lol.
I haven't heard of any problems in our area either. This is my 1st time having chicks and hatching. I feel like a first time mommy all over again. I want to make the right decision for them. My hubby thinks I've lost my mind. lol. He's obviously not "infected with the chicken addiction". lol. I did have my chicks from the hatchery vaccinated. I still don't know....I'm in my 4th yr of having chickens. Have never vaccinated. Hadn't really thought about it. I've not heard of any problems in this area.
This is our 1st time for all of this. We have chicks now and are hatching now. We jumped in both feet at the same time. lol. My kids are 13 and 9. My 13 year old says after we candle it feels like we have to sit and wait for another brother or sister all over again. lolI know what you mean lol, my daughter is very excited too (she's 6 yrs old) and keeps asking "when can we look in the eggs?" I have to explain to her that its not like viewing something on the TV and she will have to wait until they hatch to see what they look like
We have hatched babies before using our broody Silkies, but this is our first time using an incubator.
*hugs* Heather x
Oh my!!! I really hope he gets to feeling better.I attempted to candle for my first time last night and there's definitely something in there! (I'm hoping not scrambled!) Giant brown turkey eggs may not have been the easiest to start with but that's what I have. Shiloh, my giant decker, rat terrier believes the eggs are for her, the chickens and turkeys are all hers and mom has this set up in the same spot so, naturally these must be hers too! (Seriously considering duct-taping the table to the wall, I'm paranoid she'll knock everything down checking on her babies. You just can't make a dog understand gentle with an egg...)
We have plans for the 4th and I'm paranoid to go! This incubator hasnt held a temp very well, I've fiddled with it the entire time. I cant even imagine leaving it all day! lareynadenada, I am leaning toward that route too. A good broody hen is what my heart desires!
This has been such a busy couple of weeks. First, my biggest tom turkey and my smallest golden sex link cockrel got into a fight. Tom won, Roo's attitude got bigger. It tore the roo's face pretty badly. Ever crazy glued a bird's face back together??? Eghads! But it WORKED!!!
Then, ever thinking towards expansion, I was building fences with the birds all helping (Ever tried to drive nails in fence posts and attach wire with a dozen turkeys all vying for the best view? From atop your feet, pecking your ears, stealing tools, all the while you're clutching a handful of nails hollering MINE?? No? if not, I recommend locking the birds up first!
Then as all of this is going on, Dawg zooms by, disturbing the flock and one gangly 10 week old tom goes down hard in a fence post hole... dang. So, my fault (I dug the hole) I now have a heavy boy that can't support his own weight. I can see no breaks, my guess is pulled muscles but I can't be sure. So he's in the infirmary and spends his days being carried from shady spot to shady spot, lounging around eating strawberries out of my hand. I feel like a terrible turkey momma...He's soaked in epsom salts in the tub, had birdie massages and so on but isn't moving well at all. Afraid we may be having turkey dinner alot sooner than planned. Wrong thread for it but sure would like yourall's input if you have any suggestions on how to help this poor guy! And Happy Independence Day Everyone!![]()
I'm battling temps today in my 2 LGs. I'll be lucky to get anything to hatch out of them. I'm ready to cry. I feel so helpless when the temps start going crazy, bc if I touch it (even a tiny bit) the darn things spike or drop. I moved my hatch that is due next week to the havo-bato genesis. It will probably be the only thing I get any chicks out ofHow is everyone doing on their incubating? I can't really tell on mine. They are brown eggs and it is really dark inside. I can see air cell but that is about it.
