SET EGGS JUNE 23 ANYONE WITH ME?

^^That's a great idea...I have never thought about that.

I keep telling my husband that we need to get a generator. We had a typhoon last year that lasted 5 days and we were without power or water for almost 2 weeks following [we were in Japan at the time] and from what everyone has told me, this year is supposed to be a pretty active hurricane season, I want to be prepared.

I didn't candle my eggs last night, I was having a phone date with my best friend while I hung wallpaper and she painted her cabinets. lol So by the time I was done, climbing, croutching, and cursing the roll on wallpaper paste, I didn't have the energy.

How long should I wait before I start dumping eggs? There are obviously 3 that have nothing in them at all, completely clear [which is sad because all 3 of them were my White silkies :/], 1 has a blood ring, and there are 2 or 3 that are so dark you can't see anything.

Should I just leave them in there?

I'm starting to get nervous! We are officially 10 days away from hatch day!!!

lareynadenada, your babies are sooo cute! I love how they get their color patterns in their wings so early! Seems your dog wants in on the action too. lol I too incubated chicken eggs as a little kid in a cardboard box. I must have been pretty young because I don't remember it taking forever! (28 days is NOT forever, but we are only 3 days into this and I'm already half nuts.) I've only checked the temps about 3000 times! lol
For those of you raising eggs from mail order, you have my sympathy. Our postal worker truly doesn't care enough to even hide her attitude about my ordering something delicate through the mail. Last I checked, I didn't need her opinion but it sure would be nice if I didn't fear that she was kicking boxes down main street!
A friend sent me a pressure cooker in the mail and you know how strong a giant metal pot with locked on lid would be and darn if the entire thing isnt bent. Looks like they dropped it from quite a height. I wonder if any of the shippers ever use UPS? My ups delivery dude rocks! I had a cockrel go after a 9 week old tom turkey, the little roo got the worst end of that deal and ended up with a gruesome torn cheek. Ups dude happened upon the scene as I was gluing bonehead rooster's face back on and he simply stopped what he was doing and lent his hands to the task. I think I could trust that guy with a box of eggs. lol MAYBE.

I
don't know about eggs but I'm pretty sure UPS won't ship chicks

And yes Pyrate my dog is in on all the chick action when the incubator started chirping she went nuts, she thinks they are her babies

Sounds crazy but, run the washing machine full of hot water! It will hold heat for quite a while with a blanket over it.
For future use...I wonder if that would work for me... I have a front loading washer that only holds about a mop bucket full of water. I know that for sure bc my cat, Lucie, fell asleep on some clothes in there that were waiting to be washed. My husband went in the next morning and just shut the door and turned it on. Never had a reason to look in it. Well, she's ok. Thanks to my chihuahua, Natasha, she was only in there long enough to get wet and dizzy. Didn't make it to the spin cycle. NaTasha barked her head off. She never does that. Anyway, Lucie was good and squeaky and smelled like Tide. Needless to say, the washer stays shut, & Lucie stays away from the washer. All that water was on my floor when I opened the door and snatched her out while screaming to the top of my lungs. We always say that was 8 & 1/2 of her 9 lives. lol.

I looked my eggs that I had that I could not tell last time I candled. 2 were still not forming anything and the third looked like it had a blood ring.(new hope it was anyway)
Opened it up and I had a tiny lil eye looking at me and it made me feel bad.

You have ducks in bator?
Just curious cuz chicks take 21 days

I have an old (borrowed) bator that I cannot seem to keep a stable temp in I was going to go get one but a good one is at least $300 I decided my next chicks could be under a hen
