SET EGGS JUNE 23 ANYONE WITH ME?

We haven't seen rain here in 2 months. Everything is so dry. Our horse pasture is all but dead. We have had to buy hay already and no one is really wanting to turn any loose because it looks like there wont be another cutting this year. The real tempature here was 104 yesterday. I have been changing my chickens water every couple hours for the last few days and running water over their roofs to keep the heat down. I turn everything out in the mornings except a couple pens. Have some 2 month olds that are just too small to let out and a couple more trio's with roosters I dont turn out for fear of cock fights. 2 of which are Banty trio's. I moved my 5- 1 month old turkeys in with the 2 month old chickens pen for more air flow. I haven't gotten an egg in 2 days out of my laying hen pen. It is either to hot to lay or I have Easter eggs everywhere?? When I call them up for fresh water they come drink and litterly run back to the woods or under the shead. They don't stick around long!!!! At least they are all coming up to roost in the evening where they are supose to at night and I can sut them up from predators??

Ok...Last night was super duper scary for me and the kids. We had an awful storm come through last night also. Lots of lightening, thundering, strong wind, & rain blowing sideways. The lights started flickering on and off. I started to panic (but not letting the kids know) bc I have to bators full of eggs. What if the power went out? I had no clue what to do...So, I got towels, just in case, and set them between the wall and the bators (checking the temp for change) to get them warm. The lights started to flicker on and off. Thank the Good Lord, our power didn't go out. I stayed up through the storm last night checking on my eggs to make sure they were ok. That was scary along with a helpless feeling.

Hey everyone!
I set 22 silkie eggs on the 22nd. So far, I've only seen 4 of them that aren't growing.

We also had some really bad storms where I am at and I spent the entire time freaking out that we were going to lose power and I was going to end up losing my eggs. I was determined that if the power went out I was going to have my long haired dachshund sit on them until it came back.

Thankfully it didn't come to that and I had another chance to candle them last night. I don't know if the thrill of seeing the little embryo moving around will ever go away, every time I candle, my heart leaps like a woman getting ready to have a baby.

I'm crossing my fingers that I get a good hatch [it's my first too!] I doubt my husband will be ok with me hatching more....our limit was 6 chickens and I'm up to 4 chicks with 18 eggs ready to hatch [hopefully!]

I didn't think about letting my Ragdoll cat, Kismet, sit on the eggs for me. lol. Of course, he weighs 20 pounds so, that probably wouldn't have been a good idea anyway. lol.

We started out with 18 chicks, lost 1 the 1st week. Now, we have 17-3 week old chicks, 2 incubators full of eggs, and 1 turning tray half way full waiting for the other shipment to come tomorrow. I would like to set them together. We just put the eggs in the turner today so, maybe they can go in together.

But I understand the starting off small. It's very addictive and contagious. lol

Tonight I candled eggs under my Broody Cochin hen. She had 6 eggs, one had a blood ring so I disposed of it. 5 eggs had good veining and I could see movement in the eggs.

Candled the chicken eggs under my Turkey. She had 10. 5 were no good. 4 were developing well

and 1 I wasn't sure of. Kept the not sure egg just in case it's OK. The eggs under my turkey are on day 12, and the eggs under the Cochin & in the incubator are on day 11. (candled the incubator eggs yesterday).

Had to move both broody BO's to the shed where the brooder is. The other hens kept pushing them over so they could lay eggs. They both seem to have made the transition OK

Good to know :) Sure would like your opinion on what I'm embarking on lareynadenada. Do you think I'll have any success with the heating pad idea? Seems to be holding a pretty steady temp.
Pyrates, my husband hatched eggs when he was a kid with a box and a light bulb and just sprayed with a bottle three times a day so i'm sure u will do great truthfully I don't think it's as hard as people make it out to be

Update on my eggs: My 20 in incubator are doing great I swore I wasn't going to candle but did tonight, only saw one that didn't look great but several were swimming around in there I will never get tire of seeing that.

My seven from last hatch are thriving they are over a week old now and by my guess I have three roos and 4 hens. Four already have names,,The SLW is Lacy
Two splash are Bonnie and Clyde and the smallest blue is Betty

Well very disappointed this morning. Candled my 25 Brahma eggs last night. These were shipped eggs and for the 1st time I received a shipping box with damage. Several dents and a crushed corner. I was hoping for the best but not to be. Looked like most tried to start but had 2/3 with small blood rings, several not fertile. I have 5 gold laced eggs developing and 1 silver laced. I actually have several buyers lined up for my extras. Not sure if I will set anymore eggs this summer. Will tell the shipper about.

The 6 that are developing were very active, bouncing around and had good air cells. Going to keep the humidity up to 40-50% for this batch. Last 2 hatches seemed to be to dry at hatch.

Sounds crazy but, run the washing machine full of hot water! It will hold heat for quite a while with a blanket over it.
