I just finished my first hatch and if I had relied on candling I would have thrown all of them out, I got 7 chicks, never saw any veining, (only saw the dark blob you are referring to) My vote is to refrain from candling until day 18 and throw away any clear eggs,,,I candled way too much hoping to see something. This time I'm not candling at all.Is anyone candling? I just did, wanted to look at a few, just to see what was there. Well... we have one white bantam egg under broody, when looking at it I'm not really sure what is there. I can see a definite air sac, the then there is a large irregular dark sploch in it. Didn't see anything looking like an embryo or any spider veining. Ideas? It didn't stink, like I've read some places so I put it back under her, but I have no idea if it's viable...
Went to look at the others all of which are large brown eggs and I couldn't see through them at all. Tried every flashlight in the house. Do you have to have something special to see through brown eggs?
