Last time when i candled before lockdown I was sure day 18 i had none going to hatch and i didnt
Darkness filled only 1/2 the egg at day 18 and looked lesa than at did at day 10.One lookedl kie it made ity today about 16 maybe whne iopened it at day 24... BOOO!!!

Good Morning ChickSter99
! I started the 23rd so i think i lock down tomorrow(I better go count again make sure).Didnt you start the 22? After a lot of questions on here to others about the timing...I count after i put them in the NEXT day as day 1.
If it is day 18 i think i would go ahead and lock down this moning. A few ppl i have read said theirs started to pip on day 18 so to me the sooner on day 18 the better!!!
Someone else told me that the chicks dont have watches HAHAHA.

I counted the day after I put them in as the first whole day bc that made 24 hours. I also read that on BYC somewhere. I also read somewhere on BYC of people counting the day they put the eggs in as day one. I'm not sure which one is correct. I'm counting the day after as the first 24 hours. I wonder if our chick clocks will work together, close, or not. lol.

You got me nervous about the person that used the Genesis and didn't like it. This my first time using it also. I guess I like it so much, even before my hatch, is bc I don't have to touch it other than adding water. I've been fighting constantly with the LGs. I've compared temp and humidity with another digital thermometer/hygrometer & they were pretty close to each other. The Genesis does fluctuate a few tenths of a degree here and there (never a full degree), but it corrects it's self. So far, everything looks great in it. I'm going to lock it down tonight and pray for the best.

Using a home made incubator, my temps have been all over the place. All we have done over the course of the first full week is fiddle with the silly dial. I'm still hoping but seriously frustrated!

I feel your pain. You can go back and read some of my posts and tell that I was ready to throw mine out the window and pull all of my hair out. I just stopped touching the dial/ knob. When the temp drops, I wrap it with towels & cover the windows (leaving the little holes open for circulation). When the temp spikes, I uncover it. There is no middle for this one bator. The second one, I can deal with. Third one, perfect (pray the hatch will be).

I HAVE BABIES!!!!
Went out this am and there are 3 early hatchers!!!! 3 more eggs under broody, so we'll see if they hatch. I'll post pics later!

Already! Awwweee!!!! Post pics! Let us know about the others.

Everybody's having babies but me!!!! My 'chicken watch' must be broken!

Well, we got ours from a local person, and long story but she took them from a nest she didn't know about and was unsure how long the hen had been sitting on them already... could have been a week... so... Now I'm pretty sure they were already set when we got them! Technically we'd be on day 16 if they weren't. I'm hoping the others aren't too far behind though.
So far we have one blonde with black spot on head, and two with the chipmonk stripe

I give up, honestly I do.
It is supposed to be lockdown tomorrow and my incubator has a smell to it sort of like stale river smell....I am hoping its not my eggs smelling, I am already down to 3 eggs

I am going back to just using my Silkie's to brood eggs in the future......anyone in the UK want to buy an incubator

I was told sometimes you think they are not going to hatch that they are dead and you get suprised,They do rest in there so maybe it was rest time and so youdidnt see movement.if thye look reall yfull i wouldnt worry yet.Arethey all brown eggs?
No, 9 of them are dark brown Marans eggs and the other 9 are blue/green eggs. I can see pretty good through the blue/green ones and that's why I'm worried...only 1 or two of them are pretty dark looking. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for surprises!

Welcome! I saw veining in mine after 3 days & a lot of veining & slight fluttering @ 7 days with mine. Marans have such dark shells it's going to be hard to see through them anyway. I have Jersey eggs that are like that. Just the other day, I saw movement in one. I was in a totally dark room (door closed & no windows) with the brightest LED flashlight I could find. Mine is a smaller flashlight. It's easier for me to close of the light and hold the egg without dropping my egg. What temp and humidity are you running?
I've been running at 99-100* temp and between 42-47% humidity. There have been a couple of spikes, but never above 102 and never for longer than 5 mins. I've been checking the temp gauge every 15 mins! I will try to take pics of them when I candle them tomorrow night. None of them smell, but some seem like they have stopped losing weight so I am going to put all of them into lockdown and on day 23 I may try the float test with the ones that haven't hatched. I swear, this is the most nerve wracking thing I think I've ever done! LOL. I would be super happy with just one baby at this point!

No babies yet for me!

And I'm having trouble with the candling part too, so I'm not sure if there's actually any living chicks in these eggs :(

I just can't see anything. It's like a solid black out in the egg...even with my super mega bright LED flashlight...is it too late to see anything? I figured I should still see movement at this point?

We go into lockdown tomorrow and the egg turner is off in the PM tomorrow night.

On day 10 I had lots of movement and growth, I'm just concerned that now I'm not seeing anything...nothing smells, and the temps been pretty consistent so I'm not sure...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is my first hatch and I wasn't expecting a huge success but I was hoping I'd at least get a couple chicks out of the 22 eggs in there.

What's the candled egg supposed to look like on day 18?

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS srd5757!!
