SET EGGS JUNE 23 ANYONE WITH ME?

Hi! We started our eggs on the 22nd, mind if we join the thread? We set 9 assorted Marans eggs (Wheaten, blues, and black coppers, possibly a splash or two) and 9 olive eggers. Today is day 16 and I am sooo worried. I candled this morning and I still have yet to see movement. I am weighing them and they are still losing weight (I did cull 2 eggs, 1 was super stinky and 1 was clear all the way through), but should I have seen movement? They are also not all black, but I do see a black spot, kinda like an eye or something maybe? I think we are going to go ahead and weigh/candle on Tues and go into lockdown, but I'm really worried that we are going to have a 0% hatch rate :(

The others that I have set that are due on the 14th all 10 I could see movement and it was mostly black except the air cell. Hopefully all stays well with them and we will have 10 lil chicks this time next week. Hopefully my 3 year old step daughter will be here to see it. My two girls 9 and 10 are so excited. 16 yr old son not so much any more. Maybe he will when we have lil chicks running around. He loves animals, Except horses and pigs..lol

Welcome! I saw veining in mine after 3 days & a lot of veining & slight fluttering @ 7 days with mine. Marans have such dark shells it's going to be hard to see through them anyway. I have Jersey eggs that are like that. Just the other day, I saw movement in one. I was in a totally dark room (door closed & no windows) with the brightest LED flashlight I could find. Mine is a smaller flashlight. It's easier for me to close of the light and hold the egg without dropping my egg. What temp and humidity are you running?

I looked at mine on day 16 and dark but didnt see movement.i have a couple too that are iffy but i left them in. Maybe at lockdown if they only look 1/2 full or something bad i will probably take them out.
. You may do better than you think.I would for sure go all the way until day 23 before you give up
Thats what iwas told last time.
Good Luck to you and lets hope for some healthy chicks.!!

I've wrapped towels around it and put wash clothes over the windows while leaving the holes open. It seems to be holding although it will still vary 1 degree. I can handle that. I candled last night after my son bumped into the bator and cracked an egg by knocking it out of the turner. I had to put it in wax. It was still swimming like crazy as of an hour ago:) But if I keep the bator wrapped and the windows covered it seems ok. I only have to keep the windows covered. I always make sure holes are open for circulation. I still say Havo-bator Genesis is the way for me. That thing is spot on.
Sounds like a good idea the towelsWorksd the same as the closet.I just couldnt believe how much different it is with mine in the closet.I was shocked. Who would have thought if you had it in a safe place no draft etc...it would still vary so much ? Yes i have my holes open too.
The Genesis sounds good to me
.Someone else used it and and 2 other bators and wasnt really impressed but it was the first time she used it so she may just not be use to it maybe.
Last time i accidentally bumped my own but fortunately nothing felll out. I am trying to really be careful this time as they are on a table that legs are sort of spindley. My cat sleeps under there once and a while so hope he doesnt try and get out quickly.Hes sort of clumsey. I am taking a chance but it was his place before the eggs.
He will be banned from the closet the next few days. I really am getting butterflys
Lockdown tomorrow.I just have 3 really good eggs so really no margine for error on any .They all have to pip and zip!!! Well 2 anyway.
One of mine has a dent or tiny pin point crack from shipping.I left it in and it looked like it went about 1/2 way at 16 days so will see how it is at 18. More or the same,.Didnt smell. Not sure if it will be any good.Think not really but who knows.Thought of the wax but was afraid to seal the air sac end up with wax and damage it further so left it as is..

I was told sometimes you think they are not going to hatch that they are dead and you get suprised,They do rest in there so maybe it was rest time and so youdidnt see movement.if thye look reall yfull i wouldnt worry yet.Arethey all brown eggs?

I looked my eggs that I had that I could not tell last time I candled. 2 were still not forming anything and the third looked like it had a blood ring.(new hope it was anyway)
Opened it up and I had a tiny lil eye looking at me and it made me feel bad.
Dont know a lot myself and dont trust myself t o know if one is a blood ring or a vein. Wont a blood ring start t o smell later as isnt it bacteria?
I could be wrong.
Rather have one go all the way with nothing alive than to open it early and like you, have a bad experience with it alive .So sad!! SORRY!
We do want to know what happend though..
I had one i thought was a blood ring last time but later (althought every chick died early in egg) ... it had develped a lot more than i had thought after i saw the "ring"

I have the nerves going on today. What time are ya'll locking down today?
Good Morning ChickSter99
! I started the 23rd so i think i lock down tomorrow(I better go count again make sure).Didnt you start the 22? After a lot of questions on here to others about the timing...I count after i put them in the NEXT day as day 1.
If it is day 18 i think i would go ahead and lock down this moning. A few ppl i have read said theirs started to pip on day 18 so to me the sooner on day 18 the better!!!
Someone else told me that the chicks dont have watches HAHAHA.
