SET EGGS JUNE 23 ANYONE WITH ME?

ChickSter99 - what type of bator do you have? I've been looking a little, what should I stay away from?

WRVgirl - I had trouble candling too. Nothing was looking like I thought it was supposed to from the "day" I was supposed to be on. (which ended up being wrong) Anyways, two things helped me. One: google chicken egg air sac then click images. There is one that shows where the air sac should be, I guess it gets bigger as the chick develops. Second: I was having trouble seeing anything too, one thing I read somewhere said near the edges of the dark area and near the air sac for veins. It said if you see veins it is alive, when a chick dies in the egg the veins dry up and you can't see them so any sign of veins means life.

Good luck everyone! Still no more chickies... maybe 3 is our number.

I set 4 Indian Runner duck eggs and 4 Muscovy duck eggs on July 4th. They will be hatching between July 31st and August 7th.
Happy hatching evryone :)

Thanks so much! I'm going to google now, have a glass of wine and go lock down my incubator in about half an hour! I'm so nervous that my hands are shaking :D

My incubator was the one they sell at TSC. Still air, and I bought the egg turner. It's worked really well for me [I want to say it's a little giant too though] and the temperature has stayed pretty darn consistent, after the first few initial tweaks to it.

Still trying to figure out how to get the humidity up in the incubator. I think I'm going to boil water, soak a wash cloth and just throw it in there and cross my fingers! lol

If everything goes as planned, I'll have 17 silkie babies come Friday!

Good Luck to everyone!

Checked my 10 eggs prior to lockdown and seen movement in all 10. Hopefully it stays that good. Can't wait until I have a baby chick.

Alright. I just locked down 17 silkie eggs, the majority of which I saw movement in! Hooray! I guess I just wasn't looking hard or long enough, but I definitely saw movement. Added 2 little bowls of hot water in there with them so I'll be able to add water through the air holes with a syringe.

I guess that's it then! Just waiting to make sure the eggs get back up to temperature and that the humidity levels rise as they should.

Now cross your fingers that we don't lose power in the thunderstorms we're supposed to get slammed with tonight :/

Mine were shipped as well, luckily I only had 5 so far that obviously didn't progress. My box was in perfect shape though, I'm so thankful to have a mail lady who doesn't kick my packages up the road to my mailbox!
We have a wonderful PO also. I couldn't ask for better packing from the sellers or better deliveries from our PO. It's just a risk I took when I purchase shipped eggs. I'm still heartbroken more over my Turkens and Silkies. I'll have to get some more.

I have 2 Little Giants and 1 Genesis Havo-Bator. One of the LGs has done nothing but cause me grief (that's the one that I just lost 24 eggs out of). The other LG has not been so bad. My Genesis Havo-Bator is pre-set so, I don't have to fool with it. I like it a lot better. I will be getting rid of the LGs and getting 1 more Genesis.

No babies yet for me!

And I'm having trouble with the candling part too, so I'm not sure if there's actually any living chicks in these eggs :(

I just can't see anything. It's like a solid black out in the egg...even with my super mega bright LED flashlight...is it too late to see anything? I figured I should still see movement at this point?

We go into lockdown tomorrow and the egg turner is off in the PM tomorrow night.

On day 10 I had lots of movement and growth, I'm just concerned that now I'm not seeing anything...nothing smells, and the temps been pretty consistent so I'm not sure...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...this is my first hatch and I wasn't expecting a huge success but I was hoping I'd at least get a couple chicks out of the 22 eggs in there.

What's the candled egg supposed to look like on day 18?

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS srd5757!!
Ok tomorrow is day 18.LOCKDOWN!!! I candled 2 days ago one looked all black too.

Tonite i couldnt wait until tomorrow (day 18) to candle last time so just did it.
.But this time i turned the all dark egg around sure enough it is all dark.totally .. but has a small clear-ish upside down "U"shape on the other side when i turned it. JUST like the other 2 do. Didnt turn it all the way around before why i didnt see it.Alsop held reall ystilland saw one move. The others i didnt but thats ok no problem.they got this far I am confident they will go all the way.
.I have looked at the pics up on BYC in Learning Center and that is what they should look like at day 17-18 .
Try turning the egg around and look at the back of it.WRVgirl
I bet you have a small upside down clear-ish "u" shape too.Sounds GOOD!! Dont get discouraged!!
I also have just 3 eggs that are good . 3 more arent but Hey!! I have 3 that might go all the way out of 8 ....Also if you dont see the "u" doesnt mean you dont have a live chick in there. Let it go to day 23 before you give up.
Keep us posted everyone .....Now it gets exciting... WHOOOHOO!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!

okay, I'm on day 17 and this is what a lot of my eggs look like...I'm thinking it's not a good prognosis :( What do y'all think?

I counted the day after I put them in as the first whole day bc that made 24 hours. I also read that on BYC somewhere. I also read somewhere on BYC of people counting the day they put the eggs in as day one. I'm not sure which one is correct. I'm counting the day after as the first 24 hours. I wonder if our chick clocks will work together, close, or not. lol.

You got me nervous about the person that used the Genesis and didn't like it. This my first time using it also. I guess I like it so much, even before my hatch, is bc I don't have to touch it other than adding water. I've been fighting constantly with the LGs. I've compared temp and humidity with another digital thermometer/hygrometer & they were pretty close to each other. The Genesis does fluctuate a few tenths of a degree here and there (never a full degree), but it corrects it's self. So far, everything looks great in it. I'm going to lock it down tonight and pray for the best.

ChickSter 99 Your Genesis sounds great. I might get one too later.Take lot of stress off the hatch.Cant see how the tempo and humidity being more even can HURT!!!!Gotta help!!!Ok if you count like me I think you are a day ahead of me if you lock down today.
