Welcome Delight! Last summer when I got my first chicks, my favorite, friendliest, sweetest hen was my Dominique! Unfortunately, she was killed in a hawk attack.
The run now has a roof on it. Good luck with your hatch! Keep us posted....

Mine aren't Due until friday but so far so good, I set 31 eggs and through the last candling only had one quitter so i went into lockdown yesterday with 30!!! Im so excited its the craziest mixture i've ever hatched, 2 crele bantams, 12 speckled sussex, 12 French Black Copper Marans, and 5 games. Good luck to all, and I will post pics as soon as something happens....thanks and good luck everyone.

ok, i'm back! i've been gone from BYC most of today cuz i had 3 hatch out of 8 eggs. i do believe the others will not hatch. none of the remaining 5 had pipped, so i took each one out, one by one and held it up to my ear and tapped gently with my fingernail....i heard no peeping and no movement. i did this to each one. all 5 were the same...nothing. but i put them back in the bator anyway and i'm gonna give them till saturday to hatch (due date was today and lastnight)......if nobody comes out by then, i'll just throw them away. what's weird is when i candled before lockdown, all 8 eggs had movement in them. i wonder what caused 5 to die? anyway, onto better things....out of my 8 showgirl eggs, 2 silkies hatched, and one showgirl! i'll have to get my hubby to help me post pics later....he's playing x-box now.....but one chick took 23 hours from the time he pipped to actually hatch. the other 2 were strong and fast! the one that took so long laid around forever and was struggling to get up, but couldn't. i noticed no other eggs had pipped at that time, so i opened the bator to help, and sure enough, his body was so hardened with "egg sludge" that he was plastered down onto the towel i put in the bator. then, not only that, his wing was also plastered to his body. so i wrapped him in a warm wet washcloth which did not help. so i put his body under a warm stream of water. and i was very gentle cuz he also had a membrane still attached to his bottom....i did NOT pull on this membrane. but i was able to free his wing from being plastered to him....and i thought he would fuss up a storm during all this, but he was good, just gently peeping. he's the smallest of the 3 and is doing quite well now. he's a silkie with no vaulted skull and i think he'll be partridge colored. i also have a beautiful silkie with a vaulted skull that looks buff colored in some places, and whitish on his back. then, my showgirl is doing great! he has a chipmunk pattern on his back. will he be partridge colored? i can't figure what other color he could be with that marking. and the little one who was stuck, he kinda has that pattern too, but it's harder to tell on him cuz he's still not very fluffy. (hubby just said he'd help me post a pic tomorrow. i'm totally computer illiterate!) anyway, my brooder is so big, i just sit in there with the 3 of them. and i showed them their water and they're all drinking, sleeping, and peeping. and they love to sit in my hand. i wonder if i should feed them tomorrow afternoon? i know they don't need food YET.

My count so far is 7 out of 12 turken mixes and 1 out of 5 bantam phoenix. The bantam phoenix aren't really due to hatch until tomorrow.

I too have nothing. I really wanted these BCM eggs to hatch! I was shipped 8 eggs, had two quitters & the rest were booking along GREAT! Now we had a bulb blow, temps & humidity went down & I had to open 'er up to change the bulb. I really hope I didn't kill them.
I haven't heard a peep, seen a pip or ANY movement. I'm really starting to get down!

i've heard that shipped eggs don't hatch as well as local eggs. i was shipped 12 eggs, and i only have 3 chicks. 8 made it to the end though. and all were moving around wonderfully. then 5 of the 8 just didn't hatch. i can't figure it out. it's weird. but i'm sorry for all of you who are experiencing no hatching yet.

maybe there's still hope? i read somewhere, may have been on this thread.....where someone had a hatch at 25 days!! i'm sure that's rare, but still, i'm gonna give my 5 eggs till saturday night. i'm gonna hate throwing them away!

i don't have the guts to open them.

i kinda wish i did though.

I have thrown away about a dozen eggs since I've started this little adventure at the beginning of March & haven't had the guts to open ANY of them yet... can't bring myself to it.

Some of my air cells were very sloppy or misformed- that's what concerned me to begin with. I'm hoping that the lower air temperatures slowed things down a bit... but I have 18 eggs still growing in my brinsea- they're on days 6 & 3 respectively and are all shipped eggs except for 3 of my own.

I am ready to go to TCS & pick up 2 chicks for the lone chick in my bedroom so that I can get some sleep. She's lonely & is very loud about it (thinking she's a Fred, not a Fredida because of that).........

yeah, my eggs had some funky air sacs as well! i'm talkin' like clover shaped in some! i wish i had written down which ones were like that. i wonder if those are the ones that didn't hatch? and i hear what ur sayin! i can't bring myself to open them either. i have great respect for those that can, and i think it's neat....i just can't do it myself. i've got 14 silkie eggs coming in a week or 2 so i can start this endevor all over again.....i'm gonna write down which ones have funky air sacs just cuz i'm curious.

Congrats on the babies everyone! I have a bator full of EE, black copper maran and serama eggs due on Wednesday the 6th next week. I'm still trying to get the serama to hatch. Out of the four serama eggs in the bator, three for sure are still growing. I think one quit.
