Set Jan 29, Hatch Feb 19/20 Join Me!

I was using a large plastic tote in the past for a brooder for up to 8 chicks. If I have even 50% hatch I will be dealing with 18+ chicks so I am going to find a cardboard box from a fridge or range and set that up in the garage with two clamp on brooder lights and pine shavings for bedding.

Don't ever depend on those clamps. There have been too many coop fires talked about here due to those clamps!! You don't want your house to burn if it gets bumped and falls.

Just marking this thread so I can find it later. I am trying to log results on this group of hatches as well as all of your comments that you felt effected it. Good luck to everyone I only got about half way through the thread so hope everything is still doing well.

I'm doing egg carton. I've tried on their sides, on the mesh, but they always use other eggs as soccer balls. So I'm trying this out

(but I do only have 17 eggs in now)

Hey! Sounds like everyone is excited and getting close! I locked down yesterday morning. I have 4 eggs on day 20 today and 8 eggs on day 18. Mine are lying on their sides on paper towels. Does everyone see them moving? Mine are all just sitting there. Nothing. This is my first hatch and I tried to candle. I *think* most looked good in that there was veining and the dark kept getting bigger. I wasn't really sure what I was looking for! I have an RCom King Suro incubator and it's supposed to be idiot proof. Maybe I'm the idiot it missed. They were shipped eggs though. ARGH! I just want to see something!

Vibes to Everyone!

My eggs are rockn and rolln but no pips yet.I have a cheeper in there too. They've been rocking since Sunday and now I'm getting worried they r having trouble pipping. Hope evrything is ok in there! I will be devastated if none hatch! Humidity is 67. Hope that's good.

Oh btw- Sugarhill the last time I hatched I didn't see my eggs move until after they pipped. And I didn't hear any peeps either so I think ur doing fine. I hatched standard sized eggs last time. This time they r all banties so I don't know if that makes a difference.
Speckled Pullet- I am using a clear brooder light this time because it was half the price. I've used both red and clear in the past and the chicks didn't seem to care either way.Now that I said that they will probly pick and I will have to go buy one anyway!

Yea! There's hope. Off to get a glass of wine and sit in front of the bator. The eggs that are on day 18 are standard frizzled cochins. The 4 eggs that are on day 20 and silkies, so they're small. Maybe soon!

Thanks, Birdbrain. I place a framed lid made with a piece of chicken wire over the top of the brooder and place the light on that so no chance of them falling. And the brooder is kept in a detached metal garage with nothing combustible around.

Well, I just received my newfangled flashlight. I candled again and it appears all 36 of my eggs are still in the running. Someone said earlier they really didn't know what they were looking for and that is my situation. But every egg was completely solid except for a large air sac at the top. When I shone the light through the air sac area, I could see into the dark mass about 1/4" or so and all had veins showing. Several were moving around in there. So, back they go, all 36 of them. I lockdown tomorrow evening.

I assume everyone knows that pictures of hatched chicks are required. Right? Right?
