Set my very first eggs today (due March 24th) - need a hatching buddy!

Well I have a "wet bulb" hygrometer and it's running steady at 86, with temps at 100F so that translates to about 57% humidity - am following the instructions that came with the 'bator, apparently it's the best-selling model with the highest hatch rate so I guess we'll see what's happening!

The temp fluctuates a few fractions of a degree above and below 100F but I assume it's normal and OK - in nature, the mom does get off the eggs sometimes!

Let's wish ourselves plenty of GOOD LUCK!!

I'm not going for a "dry hatch" as this is my first attempt at incubating eggs so I am strictly following the instructions that came with the machine

Humidity is set at 57% until lockdown!

I have been told by several people to throw the directions away as they are for a controlled setting where the room temp & humidity never fluctuates. The more I have read on the forums the more it makes sense to keep the humidity below 50% and as close to 40% as possible. Just a suggestion, read the article on dry incubation its not really dry just makes incubating a lot easier b/c you are not constantly trying to adjust it. Like I said so far all the ones that have started to develop out of the first hatch are still going and looking good.

I decided to lower my humidity to about 50%-I had some condensation on my eggs when I turned them this morning which to me(I am no expert) that my humidity must be too high.
I bought my hygrometer from a cigar store(one of those they use in humidors) and I love that it's easy to read inside the incubator.

By the way, technodoll, I looked at your website and it is beautiful! You take glorious photos! What a talent you have.

Thank you easttxchick!!

The incubator is in a secure corner of the huge kitchen, no drafts and very little temp/humidity fluctuations so we'll see what happens...

The store owner said that hovabator had a very good success rate at hatches if you follow the simple instructions, they sell thousands per year, so I will put my faith in that. Right now humidity is 57% but if it slips lower I won't worry, when it's time for lockdown then it'll be critical.

Good luck everyone!

Hi,

This is my first time hatching. I am picking up my eggs tomorrow and they should hatch around the 25th and 26th. I shall join your bandwagon if you'd like. This is so exciting. I woke up really early today because I am so excited. I am doing my test run of my incubator and it is doing a 5 minute interval of temps 97.7F-101.5F. I can't seem to get the temp to steady but at least the fluctuation is at a good speed rate. Humidity is doing well around 45%. YAY!!!!

I'm hatching my first hatch too. I got a link you can pop in every now and then if you like. I'll stop by here too to see how thing's are going.

My hatch dates are all over the place. I got a broody due the 11th. And a bator at a friend's due 13-24 and my bator hatches due the 20-21 and longer due to the bobwhilte quail in there. So I'm with ya'!
