Hi, I'm new here, set my first eggs on the 13th March, 6 silkie and 6 wyandotte, candled them today and 5 out of 6 wyandottes have veins, the silkie ones have red "blobs" and air sacs but can't see any veining. I have only one hen, her buddy got taken by a fox, and I thought hatching some company for her would be fun. Thought she was going broody so ordered some eggs but then moved her to a new coop and she's decided it's more fun running around outside! Rushed out and bought a hova-bator and hoping for chicks around the 2nd April. Will be keeping a look out for your news. Good luck!
Okay...so I had to take out 10 eggs that decided to do absolutely squat! I feel bad but there was no sign of life.
On another note, I spend most of my day yesterday building the chick brooder in our garage. I have managed to make it out of recycled and free materials (wood pallets, old window screen, chicken wire left on our property when we first moved in) and have created.....
THE TAJ MAH BROODER!!! It is 7' long, 4' wide and 3' high with a lid and I will be also installing removable partitions to slowly increase the size of the brooder as my chicks grow. Just thought I would share....I am a very excited first momma!!!!
Equine Angel that is an awesome brooder-you did a really good job on it.
Bec-
