Set my very first eggs today (due March 24th) - need a hatching buddy!

Cut holes out of the bottom half of egg cartons, put all the eggs in them and now just tilt the egg cartons from side to side. Its a lot easier, (just hope its ok) I have read on here several times that people do this they just dont say what kind of carton they use or how to make sure the eggs get enough oxygen. Any Ideas???
Humidity is holding at 43% and 99degrees.

Glad to hear all is well here. Same with my bator.

This is driving me crazy!

I have a mercury thermometer sitting on top of the eggs (the one that came with the forced-air hovabator) and the temp reads 100F.

The eggs are in an automatic turner.

I have a digital thermometer on the side of the 'bator, on the mesh flooring, and it reads 96.7F.

Which one is the right temp???

Annnddd...

One hygrometer reads 50% humidity, while the digital hygrometer reads 43%.

I would say the digital one was right. That's just a guess. If you had one more therm. you could stick in there to compare to.

Can I join? I just set my first eggs in the incubator! I finally got the temp and humidity right but when I opened it, the temp and humidity dropped

Will it re-adjust back to 99 degrees or do I have to re-adjust it? Will it do this every time I turn the eggs?

Mine will be due on the 29th!

I agree, get a couple more thermometers. I bought 4 mercury and 4 digital when I set mine up. kept the 2 most accurate and took the others back. We have enough to worry about without haveing to wonder if the info we are getting is right.

Hope all is well soon.

It should readjust back to correct temp and humidity. This will happen every time you open the lid-no worries as long as it gets back where it needs to be fairly quickly.
What kind of eggs did you set? In order to join, you must tell us what kind of chicks you will be hatching.

If this is true, then the first 5 days of incubation were almost 4 degrees too low - and my humidity 10% too high.

I'm going to

Well this is a test batch with some eggs from my neighbor up the road since my lazy girls aren't laying right now. There are only 4, I wanted to start small. There is a Barred Rock egg and 3 mixed breed bantam eggs, they could be pure Serama, Cochin or OEGB. It will be a surprise! I love mixed breeds anyway so they will be welcomed here

I know, Kind of random, but I am having Delaware Blue Hen eggs shipped up from SC and I wanted to make sure I got it right before I throw them in there!!! I have always just let my Delaware Blue Hens go broody and now I am taking my chances with an incubator since I lost most of my flock to a predator attack last fall. I went from 8 down to only 2

Aw Bec, sorry you had such a big loss in your flock last fall.
I sure hope your incubation will be successful so you can start rebuilding.
I'm TRYING to hatch some Serama eggs that I bought from Camelot Farms-she added 3 eggs from her Silkie/Frizzle pen as a surprise!
