Raccoons carry rabies, distemper, mange, and worms. Why would I eat something that could have that?

Have you ever taken a look at all the diseases that cows, pigs, and chickens can carry??

I am NOT in favor of lethal means of predator control, in most instances. However, if you're going to kill it anyway, at least these folks who EAT what they kill aren't wasting the animal.

Pigs carry tons of parasites, and worms, those they're unclean from Jewish religeon.

Most problems are cured by fully cooking your meat. Look how people we could feed with all the pigeons in any major city. Pigeon is very good eating, very similar to quail.

Don't knock wild game till you've tried it.

I agree. I have had racoon many times. Its really good. Being from Arkansas I've had many different things. Good luck on the trap.

I dont eat rabbit, pigeon, quail, raccoon, deer, or any other wild animal.

Im not going to kill it, unless it looks like it has mange, or distemper etc, I am going to relocate it a couple miles away. Why would I eat something that is sick and has disease? We already had to put down a raccoon this year that was not able to walk. Its hind end was paralized. Im thinking it had rabies, or distemper. We shot it, and put it in a trash bag, wearing double plastic gloves, and burned it up. I felt so horrible when we had to shoot it, but I have lots of other animals, and I sure didnt want a rabid/distemper coon there.





ETA: I dont care if you eat it, what you eat isnt my business, im just stating my opinion.



I baited the trap with cheese, and a hamburger. If I catch one I will try to take a pic. Im hoping to wake up to a coon' in the trap.

If you relocate it, you need to take it farther than a couple miles away. That short a distance it will come back. And you might be taking the problem to some one else and their chickens.
Also, if it has tripped your trap twice and not got caught, it has probably figured out what you are up to.

Where I am taking it, nobody has chickens. I wouldnt want to put anybody elses chickens at risk to be killed.

How far away should I take it?

Also, the trap is old, and a little bent. The only way to make it latch is to put a heavy rock on the top, that way when the raccon sets off the door to close, it will lock. also, the trap is a little bit rusty, so I oiled everything up.

If the trap doesn't work this time, talk to your local animal shelter. Sometimes they'll rent or borrow them out.
