Setting 18 store bought eggs in homemade bator! 1/23

Yes on your thermostat , I have mine mounted about an inch from the bulb. Had a 30 watt at first, but it was letting it get to hot, so put in 75 watt. My concern is as the chicks get nearer to hatching, they generate some heat, and I have no way to turn it down . Tried an aluminum foil baffle to hold the heat near the thermostat , that worked, had a few degrees drop, but then it cooled to 92 before turning on. A challenge is always good. Keep posting your progress , interested how it works for you. My eggs should be here today, they better be here. I'll post pictures in a day or two.

You can drill a hole in the cooler so tht you can stick a screw driver through to adjust the temp.

My temps are still holding strong it has been 2.5 days so far. I need to add a tube so that I can add water with out opening it though as I seem to be going through ALOT of water. About 6-7 oz per day. It is very dry here. It's about 8% humidity. I am keeping my bater at 38-40%. My fear is come time for lockdown it will not have enough water to keep for 3 days.

I've only hatched one bunch last year. They were bad, got them from a local rancher about this time of the year. They were dirty and they came from under the chicken house, everywhere. 2 dozen, 15 hatched. When the humidity dropped I took the top off and added water to the plastic reservoir . Don't think it hurts to open the incubator if do do it smoothly. I have a hole in my bater i am building that I can adjust the thermostat , it's turned as low as it goes.

I have 2 reservoirs on my hovabater, they each hold 2 cups. Only fill one at a time till around the 18 th day ,then fill them both, seems to work ok.

Finished building my incubator a few days ago and I wanted to run a test batch through it. I went and bought 2 dozen eggs from my local Natural Grocer. The cartons say the eggs are from Amish farmers so I am hoping they are fertile. I cracked open 6 of them to check. 3 were not fertile, 2 looked fertile and 1 had a broken yolk. I checked the date on the cartons and the eggs are only 7 days old. This will be my first time trying to hatch anything. I know the odds are against me but I think it would be really awesome to hatch store bought eggs!

Little banty hen has tried to set twice, both times eggs weren't fertile. Put 12 mille eggs in my hovabater last night.

Almost got my egg turner done, maybe tomorrow. Thinking about going to Bend tomorrow and check trader joes out , rammer has it they have free range and fertile eggs. Actually not a turner, a gentle Manuel roller..
