Setting 41 on 6-15, 7-8, 7-31, and 8-23 feel free to join in at any time

So I cleared 7 clears out of my 20 some eggs. But these eggs were 3 weeks old and everyone else is still going. My batch before I set 60 and found one clear and then had a problem with the bator and had about thirty hatch.

Good Job Holm25, can you think back to any issue over the last few weeks that might have spooked your roo? Mine got chased by my dogs, and we had a few thunderstorms, so I put the fertility rate down to those events. How many hens how man roos?

BTW, what do you do with the clears, I eat them, but I would like to put them back into my egg selling.

I set to old of eggs. After 10 days eggs r less likely to start and hatch later than usual. I feed the eggs to the dog and the shells back to the birds for calcium since they live off what they find but r still cooped up at night and let out to free range in the mornimg and tje only feed they get is what they steal from the cows when they eavh get a small scoop of grain. I had 13 hens to a roo but have mostly quit cross breeding and breeding pure bred Welsummers and standard B/B/S SQ Cocgin and some CochinX for pretty green eggers.

As far as I know, a fertile egg won't become infertile...certainly the older the egg the more the chances of them dying during the hatch...but 3 weeks old isn't terribly old. You're roo is obviously just not getting to all the girls on a regular basis. Mine slowed down after a dog attack, and I hear that thunderstorms can have an effect too. Are your eggs brown? It can be harder to tell with brown eggs.

What did you do with the clears you found this time?

I opend them up after 1 and a half weeks of incubation and found undeveloped eggs. My roo definetly doesn't miss hens. If anything he over breeds them. BTW I am not being sassy when I say this. Its hard to tell gow a person says something in a text or paragraph when u cant hear their emotions.:D

Maybe the eggs got to hot when the AC went out and it was 80 degrees for awhile.

This set is moving right along for me. Day 16 here (of 28 days). I was having a real hard time candling around days 10-14. These eggs are darker & speckled and have thick shells. I considered getting the OvaScope even though I usually love my "candler" (small but awesome flashlight). Then the last 2 nights it's been amazing!! I can see the little feet moving, even the toes! I can clearly see the chicks. They are getting big. All my eggs are still alive, so I'm happy about that. But I can't get my humidity down. I'm running around 50%, DRY. I even have a cup of rice in there. Air cells look small to me but I've never done a 28 day egg. So I'm really not sure. Time shall tell. I'm glad to hear everyone has gotten rid of the clears and have good development in the remaining eggs.

NT, did you say you eat the clears after incubating them for a week? I'm not sure if I read that right. I'll wait for clarification before I comment. :)

Have a great night everyone!

Does your bator have a thermostat? Is it in the sunlight? Assuming the room temperature rose reasonably, not instantly (or really quickly), that shouldn't alone cause a lot of damage. Do you have a fan in the bator? I found out that my Styrofoam Hovabator 1588, was not telling me the true temperature inside. It was, in fact, nearly 3F off...so was running at 103.5F when I thought it was 100F. I left my live chicks in there for more than 2 days thinking I was doing the right thing, and on the morning of the 3rd day all but 6 were dead, and 3 more died in the brooder shortly after. I used a digital temperature gun to find out how off the bator thermo was.

WTG!! Glad to hear that Ruby, these are your peafowl, right?

I had a great omelet yesterday made out of my clears that were 7 days incubated. I don't eat the RR's though, although they'd probably be fine, I give them to my dogs who eat them up.

I candled my pea eggs tonight. I am really happy that I got the humidity down. The air cell lines look "cleaner", more defined, and they have gotten bigger. Someone on a pea thread said it wouldn't matter this late in the game (1 week to go) but I can already see an improvement in the 24hrs since I lowered humidity. The majority of pea hatchers are having malpostitioned chicks. Therefore I think I will stop turning tomorrow (day 21 of 28), run 25% humidity, candle (quickly) each night and as soon as I see an internal pip go into lockdown. Would it be crazy to do things so not by the book, if that's what your gut is telling you to do??

How is everyone else's progress going? Not much longer now!! :)
