Setting 41 on 6-15, 7-8, 7-31, and 8-23 feel free to join in at any time

Oh, that's a dime, isn't it? I didn't put my glasses on when I looked at the pic on the phone. I thought it was a quarter.

Had I recalled that my turkey eggs weigh between 90-150g, I'd have realized how small that one is.

I don't know what size that Canadian coin is! Haha
Mine have been averaging about 45-50 grams, smallest was 32, largest was 80 (twice). So 23 is bantam size, I'd say.

67% with no water in the Janoel? Dang. Hopefully it will go down as it stabilizes more. Are you staggering the set times related to date laid this time? Sorry you broke some.

I still hope to be setting mine Monday evening.
the egg has a nice color. I wonder if the Janoel has water trapped some where. also wonder what the ambient humidity is . this weekend hatch results
22 out of 24 two were sticky piped yesterday assisted those and two more early evening all but one appear to be doing well. I think the one will be fine. I will know in the morning. I have done
all kinds of things to get that hatch rate .keep fans running on the incubators all day watch for heat spikes and lift the top to let heat out and cool the eggs. If no one is here I take the hygrometer case out of the top. absolutely no water at all in the incubators. the Maran eggs have hatched well the last two hatch's in spite of the large humidity swings. can't wait to see how SC's hatch goes with the dry start this time. one thing I'm doing is using only distilled water in the hatching step our water is so hard here. don't if that has done anything though . got you pinned now so I can keep up .

Our coins are the same size as American coins...if you were wondering...;-]

On my eighth batch. Have never cracked one egg. Just sayin'

Lolz, I know, I just hate the clicking sound the eggs make against them...

Overnight, the Janoel's humidity went down to 20%...but the Brinsea's went down to 35% ('cause it has a humidity pump...
woot.gif
) So I guess its going to go up and down over the course of the day and night...this should be an interesting comparison.

Don't read past this point if you can't stomach heart rending facts...

I had that one egg that I thought was dead and cracked open only to find a living chick...well, late yesterday I put it in a fresh garbage bag, and into the garbage. I figured, no way it was going to survive and be healthy...this morning, another two other chicks had passed so I went to put them in the bag and the egg chick had completed getting out of the egg and chirped. So, I put it in the brooder and its still alive.

See you have to give them a chance in my opinion.

I didn't realize your eggs were so dark.

They have not been that dark, apart from the odd one or two. This is the first time I have gotten an egg that might actually do reasonably well on the Maran egg chart.

I have not added water to my incubators all summer long . and only add water to the hatcher after the first pip. and last night after the first hatch. and question if I should have added any then . I've had a turn around my ees always hatch first Now my BCMs hatch first and without much trouble . my humidity levels have been anywhere 35%to 65% without a drop of water. last week 23 out of 27 locked down hatch not over today but the numbers are looking good so far .I'll know more latter. two hygrometers that far apart means one is so wrong . run dry until the next set an see what happens keep both incubators on till then. would almost bet money high humidity is your biggest problem.

That's great to hear @BYC910 , reassuring to say the least. I added a bit of water to the Janoel and it quickly went up to 50% (from 22%), so I am going to leave it there and add a bit more when it goes back down to, say, 30%. I need to find something in my kitchen drawers that more easily allows me to add small amounts of water...hmm...

My bator area is well ventilated, there has just been so much humidity in the ambient air lately. Today's a bit of a respite, tg, I may try a fan directly on the bators should the humidity get back up there, thanks for the suggestion.
