Yes the temps drop a lot when you open the incubator to take out the turner. It doesn't hurt the eggs because they can hold their internal temperature for several hours. I don't change the temps for lockdown. Your post reminded me that I once read that the temps don't have to be as high for hatching. Sorry I don't remember for sure, but I think the article said 95 degrees. I like to keep my humidity at 45% up until the 19th day and then up it to 65% for hatching. Once the chicks start hatching the humidity seems to jump up into the 70's. The only problem with humidity into the 80's + is that the chicks that have already hatched have a hard time drying. Hope this helps
YES, that explanation was very helpful..thank you for "teaching" so much in this thread, you have been a life saver (for the chicks hopefully!)!
I feel SO much better now (good thing I don't drink to relieve stress or all the booze in the house would be GONE and I would probably be singing to the eggs or something silly!!! LOL..), it really helps to know what is a critical issue and what is not.
I think I have read so much about not shrink wrapping the chicks that it is easy to freak out about it and think that any little change will do that but it sounds like for the most part there is some room for variation within the hatching process...which is good to know!
Thanks again for the "mental" relief...I will be so glad if these chicks hatch out after all of the "Drama" I have perceived there was with them! I am guessing down the road I will look back and wonder why I was nervous about hatching eggs? I am sure it is easy once you get comfortable with the process!!!
I'm glad you feel better
I still get nervous every time! I guess that is the thrill of it

I'll be waiting to see your new chicks
