I just leave them, however this time I have removed the bars as one chick got stuck in the bars last hatch, so removed the bars, but they are still sitted up Like they should be. I don't like them laying down as in my last batch i think 1 chick drowned itself before it even hatched out as it was hatching. I think it's what happend, but im not possitive.

All of my hatches in the past I have taken them out of the incubator on day 18 and left them in the egg cartons they were turning in and put them into the hatcher to hatch. I had pretty good hatch rates that way. My last hatch I took them out of the cartons and put them flat to hatch and only got 50%. Laying them flat was the only thing that was done different from the other hatches so I'm thinking that had something to do with it. I use an AstroTurf type mat in the bottom of the hatcher, maybe if I put them on a rack off of the bottom so air could circulate around them more it would be better. My wife is going to do an eggtopsy today on some of the ones that didn't hatch to see what might have gone wrong and when. (she enjoys doing that for some weird reason)

Yeah and I'm thinking thats why, so now I really don't like them laying flat and i also removed bars so no chicks get stuck, there are 1 bars instead of 3.. I have also had better hating that way too with them sitting up right. I couldn't crack them open to see, only if it looks like it's empty can i. I'm afraid of cracking open a chick and then i'd freak out.

We always wait a couple of days after the last one hatches to check out the ones that didn't. Yeah, a half formed or what ever stage they were in when they died chick kinda grosses me out too. Thats why my wife does it.
