I woke up to one hatched, one zipping and two pipped. I think early hatching means our temps are a little too high during incubation. I'm going to invest in better thermometers.

Sounds like a lorp cross. My lorp roo gets every hen i have in there with him... litterally 50% of what ive been hatching is part lorp lol

edit The black does tend to overpower the rir but occasionally ive been getting a red tinted black chick.

Sold off most of my mutts this morning im down to 14 in the brooder few more are dry and ready to go in with them tho

Yeah I bought the eggs from someone and all she said is that her black chicken got in with her hens so they may not be pure bred LOL.. I had my fingures cross that there will be a red, but all were black .

ours started hatching at 9 am. we have five so far (12/3 and 12/4 eggs). one more pipping and a maran egg fist pip.

Took everyone's advice, left them all in incubator, took first two groups and laid o cheesecloth, rest upright in eg carton with bottom cut out.

Will put the hatchlings in brooder tomorrow?

Tomorrow will be fine. I often leave mine in the hatcher for up to 48 hours. If you go longer then 24 hours tho leave a little bit of water in the hatcher for them to drink. This hatch is done. 21 out of 25. ill leave the last 4 for another 2 days but I think they died during development. It happens. On to the next lol

Have another baby.She hatched at 10 tonight. Have 1 egg left hopefully she will hatch tonight.

thanks Marine. Where in AL are you? The Marans see to have more challenge pipping = they start and then quit. Its been several hours. The hatched chicks rock and roll the maran eggs and jump all over them. We are still at day 20 for the maran eggs.

so far still just one chick hatched. My hen is still on her eggs though. I'm guessing she would know if the eggs were duds. I mean she did kick one rotted egg out a few days ago.
I just wish they'd all hatch. but am thinking the one chick might be the only one that hatches.
