~Setting chicken eggs Sept. 7th.~

Has anyone dared to candle their eggs yet? I'm trying to be patient

HAHA!

Well you know... last night my turner motor was making a funny noise and I was getting a little stressed out that it was over-heating or something so I opened up the bator a little to mess with it (it's working still), so I thought to heck with it and grabbed about 4 eggs to quickly peek at, dumb cause they were in there 2.5 whole days...but I did see spider-globby-thingy going on in one of the Old English Games, they're small and white so that's probably the only reason why I saw anything at all, I RE-promised myself I would behave until Day 7 at least!

This is my broody...duck! Set to hatch the same day as my incubator babies!

Doesn't Reba look happy that my girl, Eggs Benny, popped in to add another one to the pile?

(PS - She's not in jail, those are her 'Turkey Bars'!

Everyone else, including her, can come or go in for a visit except the turkeys and my big, fat drake - they don't fit, and they're the biggest brats!)

Newbie question here...

I live in Boston and was wondering how late chicks can hatch and live in the coop, in my area? I don't have a roo but I have a broody girl and thought about getting some fertile eggs to put under her, but wondered if it was too late in the season.

Comments?

Thanks!

How is everyone making out? Anybody doing any candling this evening or waiting until tomorrow or longer?

Well the duck 'snapped' out of it, Day 5 - haha! Not surprised. My other duck did the same thing in July and only lasted 8 days...maybe next year!

~I have a homely lookin' little red hen that I rescued from my neighbour, she went broody and sat, and sat and sat for close to two months and never did get any live chicks, but I'd candle when I was 'chicken-sitting' and there was babes in there. She was more concerned about stealing every egg she possibly could and I don't know why the poor thing never hatched any - maybe she was eating them?

But after a while my neighbour had HAD it with her, especially when another went broody,

- so before she strangled them I brought them home, they obviously 'snapped' out of it right away which I had figured she would, but since she was so dedicated this year, I was hoping to get a broody next year, hence her name - Ol' Broody! ...till then I'll keep hatching!

Have a good one!

I want to candle soooo bad. I know I should hold out. Broody still going strong. She reFUSES to poo in her pen even though it's big enough. I take her out a couple of times a day and her poo is about as big as my dogs. LOL.

Anyone else candle this morning?! I have at least 3 active moving babies! They are BCM eggs so it's kinda hard to tell with the others.

I candled my white eggs, the Dorkings and OEGB, I can never see clearly in the brown ones so I'll just leave them for a little longer.

9 of the 12 Dorkings have something going on, and 7 of the 9 clearly had a PARTY going on inside, it was busy!

11 of the 12 OEGB have something going on.
