Setting duck eggs on Saturday, 8/18 - Anyone wanna join? (Set by next Saturday for chicken eggs)

Well, I'm officially down to 13 duck eggs, and probably really 3. After carefully looking everything over, I think it was bacterial contamination that got them. Anyway, I have a picture for you guys! I couldn't find a good picture of a blood ring, and I wanted to help you guys out if possible. This is one of my duck eggs. If you have any that look like this take them out IMMEDIATELY:

That is a picture of a really bad blood ring. I have a few other eggs that look like they may be getting them, but I've left them in just in case it's a vein forming or something. Still, I've 'isolated' all the for sure good eggs in their own carton. That's because a blood ring is caused by bacterial contamination, and there's a possibility that the bacteria can ruin other eggs. If those eggs that have these marks that look kinda like a blood ring aren't different by tomorrow they're all getting chucked too. Better safe with my three for sure good ones than sorry.

i managed to set 24 chicken eggs on 23rd August

hatch day is 12th September

candled yesterday and i can see a very tiny veins forming

few more days will make it clearer

So I put 4 more eggs in the incubator last night. Guess we see if they are fertile or not.

Lol, I've spent the day trying to find where my polish hen is laying her eggs. No luck yet but if I find them, into the incubator they go! Red, good luck with your four new ones. Did you get them from the girl at the Farmer's Market?

How are you gonna handle the staggered hatch? I have a 'hatcher' ready for the silkie eggs to go into when their lockdown date comes so that I can still turn everybody else till their lockdown days.

Haven't thought that far ahead yet. Figured that after I candle them later this week if they have stuff going on we will build something if not I wont have to worry about it. Have two trash days before lockdown so plenty of time to fine supplies. ha ha ha

From reading in the forums how long till a rotten egg explodes? Will it smell before getting to that?

Yes, they can stink up the whole incubator! They also get to looking kind of black inside and sometimes black splotches start to show on the shell. They can also trick you because sometimes the gas buildup in them makes them move it will look like a chick is rocking the egg. Candling helps eliminate the risk for it. I read that someone had a bad egg explode at the very end of incubating, so three weeks - although I guess it could happen sooner.
