setting eggs 10/20 or 10/21, anyone else??

Hello All

I set eggs on the 22nd so I figured I would jump in here! I got 2 1/2 dozen Millie DeFluer bantam cochin eggs from a local lady and a dozen from anther local lady that are some frizzles polish and some silkies and a bonus 3 show girl eggs. So I came home and decided it was silly to not fill the incubator so I collected all my eggs from the girls as well. I have silkies, polish, NH Reds and Japanese Bantams. They are all mixed up in the coops for the winter so none will be pure color and most probally wont even be pure breed lol. By the time I finished collectibng eggs I decided it was silly to only fiill one incubator when there is a perfectly good one sitting in the closet. SO....by the end of the madness I have 8 dozen eggs incubating and a ticked off husband because now I am in the process of building a monster brooder in the basement to accomadate all these fluffy butts this winter

Just jumping in because I also set some eggs on the 22nd. 6 bantam Ameraucana, 3 b/b/s and 3 black/lavender and 1 bantam EE brings the total to 7. I know not a lot but that's what I could get for now and that's all the boss would let me set.

So far all are fertile!!!!!

I candled today. I have 2 Dominicker, 8 BLRWs and 3 terribly mixed up hybrids going good. I added the 3 in just to see if they were fertile and wonder what they would be.

2 Hybrids are Golden Comet Hen with White Cochin Bantam Rooster
1 is same rooster with Gold Laced Wyandotte.

I can only imagine that those 3 will be easy to tell from the BLRW and Dom chicks.

My last hatch was my first, and the % was kinda of low. I am hoping for better this time. Last time it was the actual hatch that did not go as planned. Way too many eggs unhatched. We will see in a few more days.

You have a really bad case of chicken math.

Well only about 8 of the Millies made it to lockdown.....a lot of them were on the iffy side of older eggs so I expected that
hmm.png
all of my NH reds were unfertile (just changed roos before...guess hes not doing a great job so far) So I am ending up with about half of whatt I set in....can't say im too broken up about it tho, less is more when hatching chicks in the winter.....right???

I went into lockdown yesterday myself. I sent everyone in the brooder outside as well.

Of what I had, only 1 Dom, 3 BLRW and 3 Mixes made it. All had strted, but quit somewhere around day 10. The 3 mixes shocked me, but I guess mutts always do better. Two eggs come from Golden Comets, 1 from a GLW. The rooster is a Mixed White Bantam Cochin. Who knows what they will be.

My last hatch percentage was not high, I am hoping for much higher this time.

I didn't get mine set until 10/28, so my hatch date is now 11/18 right on the day that I won't be home, well I will but not until about 3 AM and then only for a few hours then I will be gone again for half the morning. Not sure what I was thinking.

So our lockdown day is on the 15th, just a few more days. I need to get my brooder box ready.

we set on the 23rd. Had 6 eggs make it to lockdown.

Had 1 hatch last night and 3 more are pipped.

The one that hatched is so cute I have never seen anything so cute! i am not sure which hen layed it and I am not even sure which rooster is the daddy. The chickie is a charcoal color with black beak and feathered black feet. Came from a brown egg. lol I don't have hens that are the breeds of my roosters. Not sure how that happened

I know it is either the silkie or the cochin/silkie

My rooster choices:

I have 9 more due next weekend. Staggered hatch. I had some duck eggs set with this one and then I added some chicken eggs too.
