Setting Eggs 12/27 Anyone else?

I have a small flashlight with 12 LEDs that takes 3 AAA batteries that I use to candle. It is a little bigger around than a bantam egg. I got it for $5 at a store called Five Below ( everything is $5 or less).

We love this store! It is the only thing I have found that will penetrate my blue eggs, but it won't do much for dark brown eggs like Maran's.

Well after looking and resisting the urge to candle for an hour (perhaps more)... I candled and

about half of the eggs have embryos 38 of maybes and 27 have something in them

as some of the 38 still looked like possibilities they are still in the incubator. Looks like half of the shipped eggs made it this far and 1\\4 of my own silkies are making it.

Now I can restrict myself for another week!

I really should have candled the rest of the eggs lastnight but i ran outta time. maybe I will just wait until day 10 & pull out any that have not developed... out of the 49 eggs in there i did candle 3/4 of them & they all looked great just 2 questionable-really pores eggs...

It is amazing to watch an egg develop isn't it!!!!

lets go chickies!!

Day 5 today. I will candle tonight. Im ready to see how my shipped eggs are doing. Its my first time to hatch eggs out of the mail. Temps are holding steady he i can trust my thermometer. Is it a given that shipped eggs will have a lower hatch rate? Good luck everyone.

We set a batch in the incubator on Dec 28th! It has quite a variety... should be interesting. Can't wait!!!
I think there are 8 Buff Silkie eggs, several duck eggs and the rest are a mix. We haven't had any duck eggs hatch before. I know they need an extra week in the inc...so this should be interesting.

The last batch that hatched were mostly silkies...they are doing so well. The one I am most curious about is our Silkie/Easter Egger mix. I was really surprised to see that our Black male silkie was successful in getting our Easter Egger. It is the cutest chick. I will have to get a newer picture and keep you updated... this pic she was only a couple days old...

Awww!!! That is the cutest chick!!! So sweet!! I am amazed how quickly my Christmas chicks are growing!! The just feel so substantial when I pick them up now, they must be going through that chunky baby phase.

. The baby turkeys sound so cute!! My neighbor raised a couple of turkeys last year, she really enjoyed them! I don't plan to hatch anything but chickens while I live on this property. I just don't have the land to get into anything else, but someday when I get a bigger place..... I have all kinds of plans.

I know what you mean about the Christmas chicks. Mine are feathering out nicely. Pretty.

I set 38 eggs on the 28th. They are silkies, sizzles, and frizzles. I'm so excited!

It's my first attempt to hatch. I candled them (first time for that also) on day 4 -5 and I see veins in about half of them. I'm not totally confident in my candling ability though. So I'm wondering when I should discard the ones that don't seem to be developing? I want to check them again but I suppose it's best to leave them alone? I would love some advice...
