Setting Eggs 12/28 - Hatching Buddies? Hatch-Along

Looks like all I!ll be getting is BLRW's. Both the rock and orp bantams look clear. I'll leave them in just in case, no smell or weeping, except me that is.
I would have liked to have some bantys. Maybe next time.

I'm sorry to hear that, that's always sad. But good luck with the BLRW eggs!

I'm sorry that none of your bantams are good. Hopefully you get a nice result from your BLRW. Are you hoping for blue, black, splash or a mix? I have a splash, but I'd love a blue. I hatched two batches last year, sold off all but two. One was black (ended up dying- it was kind of the runt and I wasn't sure of its' health so I kept it back) and the other is splash. I did give a gorgeous blue to my SIL though.

I just candled, and all seven of my remaining eggs are wriggling around. They're almost to the point where candling isn't as much fun for me, so they'll probably get left alone more now.

I have to admit it thrills me that the fertility rate with my birds seems so good!

I've got a blue roo, a blue girl, another girl is more gold than red, my third girl is red with columbian marking, finally there is a splash that only has a tiny little tail. She was a runt, slow feathering, she's not laying yet anyway.

Anything I get from this hatch will go to other homes, my veterinarion wants them, least I can do for her. She doesn't want to order 25 min, just a few layers.

I candled again today (day 6 starting a few hours ago...lol) and everything seems peachy. All twelve look good and I can't wait to check for eyeballs tomorrow! Starting to plan how I want to do the whole lockdown thing since this is my first time hatching...hmmm.

I've been contemplating lockdown, too. I have two incubators, so I can use one as a hatcher and one as an incubator. But I've only got the one batch set right now so I am wondering about just leaving them in the same 'bator for lockdown. I have a week or so to think about it, heh. Plus I have to clean out the brooder house and get it set up, dig out the ecoglow and the brood lamps ... ah, so much to do! :)

Yeah, I only have the one incubator so I've got to plan what I'm going to do. Right now I'm incubating in egg cartons because I don't have an auto-turner and this way I can tilt the whole incubator. For hatching I'm going to take them out and lay them on their sides. I'll probably have to add a sponge in there for water and I've rigged some aquarium tubing so that I can add warm water to the wells or the sponge (when it's in there) as needed.

I weigh the eggs tonight for the first time since incubating! Day 7 starts this evening and I'm so excited :p

I only have a Brinsea Mini Advance, so lockdown is fairly simple. I want to get the bigger Brinsea. Just can't justify the cost yet.

I keep my brooder tote out in the hen house. It does need to be cleaned out and I need to find the light. Also figure out what to do about water. I like the chicken nipples, but my smaller bottle is being used outside by a banty chick that hasn't quite figured out the big girls' waterer yet. Although, I am thinking I may sell all of these babies, which means it'll be a lot simpler.... But, I kind of want more legbars- so maybe I'll keep a couple...

How do you make water bottles out of chicken nipples? I have so many of those lying around that need to be put to use.

I bought my nipples from this site: http://www.cconly.com/

Basically did the same thing this guy did:

I attached one of them to a 1 liter mountain dew bottle, but I think that one doesn't work as well as the ones I attached to a 5 gallon bucket.
