Setting Eggs 4/17! Who's With Me?

okay. so the past couple days have been really stressful.... i added more water into the incubator to bring up the humidity closer to 40/50 and the whole thing went wonky. the temp went way up to 106. so i panicked and lowered the temp a bit a bunch and watched it all morning long until i tweaked it just right again.. when i got home the low was 93...

so i turned it up slightly, and again slightly, and again, and again until it finally read 99, the low was still 97... so i turned it up a little again. this morning it was 100. good. i took my shower and then i looked at it again and went to turn the eggs and it read 104,

i candled all the eggs and so far all of the ones that were alive are STILL alive... anyways i turned it back down a bit again. i think id rather it be a degree or two too low than a degree or two too hot.... i really dont want to be cooking my babies. i'm kinda worried about my hatch now though. blah.

I candled and I am down to 15 eggs from 27. But hit a snag i was gone for two day the kids did a good job of turning the eggs but no one checked the water and when I came in today the humity was 22. hope there still ok.

Must be the day for incubator woes! We woke up this morning to a power outage. I say woke up becuase we did not know it happened so could not step in with blankets etc. The temp was 74.4...this happened to us last hatch but then it was out for 12 hours and this time only 3. I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.
Any experience with loss of power or decreased temps. out there?
I hope things improve for those of you who are having temp. and humidity issues.
I just want to be the perfect artificial mother hen:barnie

well dont give up my broody hen got up and her eggs were very cold and she hatched 2 out of the 6 and we stuck the rest in the bator because she moved off those once she hatched the 2 . And they were ice cold and today 2 babies hatched. So you never know

good luck\\

I decided to move the broodies to a nursery. Only one stayed. The cuckoo marans. Took right to her new nest. I am hoping I broke the other two. We shall see. The incubator is going well.

Thanks Starry...I feel much more reassured hearing someone had success despite. We had a freak wind storm...one would think that by almost May power outages would not be a concern! I had to run to work but hubby had it all back to normal shortly after the power came back.

I candled last night for the first time and 15 of my 36 eggs were duds!!!

My coworker gave me 9 eggs, and I'm pretty sure all of those are duds but I think that's from t hem being dirty when she gave them to me.

On a happy note though, one of my broody hens had a baby hatch this morning!

I wasn't expecting any until this weekend, but there were 2 pips last night. One of them didn't make it (an Americana darn it!) but a little cochin bantam cross hatched.

She has 8 other eggs...hopefully they'll hatch!

Well .. we should all be about half way there .. I candled two of my lightest colored eggs (I have a really lousy flashlight) and they appear to still be developing .. amazing.

I can just wait and see what happens is all...

I might go buy a better flashlight tonight ...........

Today is the day I have marked on the calendar as candle day, however I am terrified to do it. I candled a single egg out of this hatch and dropped it. This was on Saturday and it did appear to be growing, until I killed it that is. I will try to get over this hurdle but if I drop another one I will not be candling again and will be hoping for the best without. This is an unplanned staggered hatch so we will see what happens with that. I have 2 incubators and need to clean and set up the other one so it will be ready when its time for 4 eggs to be moved into lock down. The remaining 8 eggs will be staying in the presently used incubator as they will still need the turner. Temp and humidity are holding steady so that's a plus.
