Setting Eggs 4/17! Who's With Me?

I candled last night and was pleased with the results.

I put in 6 LF blue cochin, 6 blue/mottled bantam cochin, and lost one of each, so down to 5 of each.
I also put in 7 golden cuckoo marans, 6 BC/GCM mixes and lost a few more of those and am down to 4 of each.

Left all the quitters in, just in case and will check them again on day 18, but most of them looked totally clear.

I also am doing a staggered hatch. My other eggs one on auction didn't get shipped until later than I thought, so they are exactly a week behind the ones posted above. I have 13 silver penciled rock bantam eggs and through in 8 of my EE's for fun. Have no idea if any of mine are fertile, but saw our BANTAM black cochin rooster doing the deed on one of our huge EE's right before, so who knows!

i candled last night also. out of 12 hertiage rir i got 11, outof 7 welsummers i got 5​

I candeled and all but one had viens so I am very happy. My others that were due hatched out of 40 we lost 2 that had ziped part way and the others sat on them and they suffercated i am pretty sure. We had a few others that must have quit early on . We have 45 healthy chicks and 35 more on the way

I told myself I was not going to candle until lockdown but after the turner quitting and power outage I have been worried about the little guys. So I took one egg out and had a quick peek. Yippeee!!! there was veining and a little one dancing around in there. Such a relief! I tucked him back in and breathed a big sigh of relief.

I have 19 alive and doing well so far! I candled last night and all of them were wiggling around in there!



Katie- Have any more of Wanda's babies hatched?

How sad is it that I have not candled my eggs because I have been too busy with the garden and yard!? I need to remember to candle eggs and do laundry tonight, its supposed to rain so I may be forced to take caare of indoor duties... Last time I candled the ones I looked at had good veining... there are 19 eggs in the nest outside and 17 in the bator...I need to force one of the girls to go broody now...

So they're really not due until Sat/Sun. She hasn't abandoned the nest yet. Yesterday I sat with her and brought her water and food so she wouldn't have to get up.

No pips on the other broody hen either.

Oh, and I put the 2 keets in with the turkeys. Those keets looked like they hatched yesterday! They're teeny and NO feathers at all yet. They like the turkeys though...they're about 1/3 the size and they try to cuddle with the turkeys.
