Setting Eggs 4/17! Who's With Me?

ok, how long does it take for the temp to adjust in the little hovabator 1602n? I had it stable at 100.3 for 12 hours, put the eggs in and it went down to 97.3. Humidity is still good, I turned 1/4 turn and it did nothing in 4 hours. so Now i have turned it 1 whole turn. Will check it again in another 1/2 hour. that will be two hours from adjustment. I can not believe that it went down that much adding the eggs. OMG!!! I don't know how I will handle this for 21 days.

I just went and checked it again. It has been 3and1/2 hours. still reads 97.3. I did another whole turn on the thingy. I will check it again in 3 hours. I sure hope it works.

Okay I am the first to admit that I have wholly spoiled my banty silkie Winnie. Instead of going-over to the coop at night she sits by the back patio door. She is. Very clean, quiet, calm and snuggly. I have posted a pic of her in her diaper on my bed on my blog boisebackyardchickens.blogspot.com We were watching the office. ....commence laughter.

Love the diaper and Winnie is very beautiful. Hmmmm wondering if I can design mini diapers for my chicks..although DH and I are already teasing ourselves about how we baby them.
Good luck with your hatch

I hate waiting too and was wondering why I am doing this to myself again. The only answer was that I am sadly addicted and already thinking how I can just hatch eggs in the future and sell the chicks. Either that or my neighbours will start calling me the Crazy Chicken Lady.
What humidity is everyone hatching at?

I don't know if mine is 100% accurate, but mine says 49-50% humidiy.

I was also kind of curious what an egg looks like from the outside at 3-4 days...I just see a big dark blob in mine...nothing to exciting.

How's everyone doing??

I have an LG still air incubator. Had a FABULOUS hatch out of it in February.

I have a little digital thermometer/hydrometer from wal-mart in there.

The first couple of days I jacked with the thermostat trying to get my temps about 101.5 .. The temp would be 102.0 consistantly, unless I touched the thermostat, then it would drop to 98.whatever. I finally left it at 102.0.

then the first day, my turner quit, with the tilt all the way to the far right (imagine my luck) .. So, I marked the eggs and have been hand turning each egg, in the turner.

Last nite, DH brough home a temperature probe that they use at work to calibrate temps .. At egg level (right between 2 eggs) I'm at 101.5. Below the egg, I'm at 99 something .. at the top, I'm 102-103.5. So I couldn't be more pleased.

Looking forward to candling day. The shipped eggs had a REALLY rough ride, so I'm not so confident about them, but the Salmon Fav eggs were local farm fresh and put right in the bator .. I got 100% hatch from this breeder in the past .. whoot!
