I can't help myself...I want to candle so bad, but i can't see much. My flashlight isn't bright enough! I can't wait 3 weeks before I find out if they will pop or not! This was the worst day, I keep opening the bator up to try to see thru the shells. Slap my hand!

I tried candling the eggs I set in on 4/16-- I could actually see many with the little black dots.. but am worried that I couldn't in others. It just look like a yolky mass inside. I'm going to wait another week before trying again.. I think. I would just hate to have an exploding egg mess... eeeyuch!

I am checking in with an update! Out of a total of 34, I have 27 that are developing so far! I had a few definite blood rings and a crack..one even had a bubble floating around in it, but so far so good! I am very excited about this hatch!!

everything goes alright!

I know what you mean. This is my first, but I am very excited and worried. It is a great feeling really. I candled tonight and last night, but not all of them. I am going to wait till I think Friday night before checking them all. I have some that I just can't tell anything yet. I am going to try to get some pics too, good luck everyone.

Well I have baby chicks from my good friday hatch. For newbies this is what i have learned. I have done several hatches last year. But I feel this is truely my best hatch ever. I have 13 out 4 more pips and chirps from the others. I lost one that I candled that was iffy on day 18 so when I had to remove chicks because of crowding and they were panting some had been in there since yesterday. The iffy egg was a quiter. This is what I have learned
leave chicks in bator as long as you can they realy encourage the others to come out. Dont freak out over a few drops in humidity. And most of all buy the best hydrometer you can afford I spent more this time and it realy has made a difference I believe now my others were reading wrong. Also I only candled at day 10 and very very quickly at 18. I only added water when it got to 35 to 40 i did not freak if it did not stay at 55 humidity from day 1 to 18. And I bought the best mini mag light I could afford. I only removed 10 that had been all fluffed and I left 3 in there. I only removed them when they kept panting all day and were knocking the ones that had major holes in them upside down. And also we are not hens we are trying to create a enviroment as close to nature as we can but we cant get it perfect . My hen in the coop crushed one of her eggs that was hatching. I saw blood on the egg and was thinking for sure he would die but guess what he is all fluffy and tucked under his mommy so even hens make misstakes so relax and enjoy . This is just all my opinion nothen more then some free advice LOL. I have another bator full of 50eggs and I will do a candle in 3 days before lock down. I plan on doing another 50 after I clean the bator that is hatching chicks now.

OH and one more thing stagered hatches are hard to do I wish I had not done that in the other bator I have like 8 eggs due 5 days after the others are due I WILL NEVER DO THAT AGAIN LMAO it was not one of my better ideas. HUGS to all
