Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Good luck to everyone with eggs still waiting to hatch, and congrats to everyone with adorable babies!

I have four more eggs waiting to hatch (lost one..it started zipping and just..quit...it looks like. I expected to lose a couple out of the 11, so it's disappointing but not unexpected. I have 6 little peeps so far ^..^ Just waiting on these last few.

So I have two that have pipped. One has it's beak broke through the membrane but isn't making much progress. The other pipped about 11:00 this morning and hasn't done anything else. However, watching the egg it started shaking and moving. I haven't heard much peeping out of them. A little here and there. Should I be worried or just let them do their thing. Humidity is 65-70%. The membrane that I can see is white and dry.

The three in the middle resemble our araucana chicks.. but the araucana and ameraucana chicks look SO similar that I can never tell them apart. Dunno about the others!

I'm happy everyone is having success in their hatches! I will attempt to join in on posting pics if I ever get 2 spare seconds while at home.

Well, seems like 3 buttons is what I'm going to have- now to keep my fingers crossed I have 2 girls and a boy! I hatched these out for a friend of mine to have a couple as pets, so that would be ideal. I'll take 2 boys and a girl though, because I would be able to pair off one of my adults with one of the males when they are old enough. The rest of the eggs should have hatched sunday night... so when I get home I will "get crackin" to see what went wrong. I'm betting they were just old- I waited longer than I had planned to set them, trying to sort out incubator issues.

I candled my three peafowl eggs- they all seem to be developing. I actually didn't think one of them would, considering it had a chip taken out of it. I patched it, but I've not had one like that start before... so now I guess I'll see how far along it can go. Not ONE of my turkey eggs (the whole reason for turning on the incubator!) have started though. I'm thinking it's a lost cause. I will just have to buy some chicks at the next swap. "Darn"

Thanks for your input! They are foster eggs from a different mother so I wasnt sure what breed they were.

4 out of my 6 eggs that made it to lockdown have hatched. The other two haven't pipped yet or anything so I think they are a no go. I started with 13 eggs so I got about a 30% hatch. Not great but not terrible for a first hatch in a home made incubator. My latest chick was getting trampled by the others so I put it in a plastic container in the incubator to protect it. I didn't figure opening my bator at this point would be a bad thing.

How soon can I put my chicks in a brooder? They are mostly fluffed but have a few feathers stuck down on the tops of their heads. One hatched at midnight, one during the night sometime, one about 11:00 today and one just now at 7PM. I didn't know if I could take the older chicks out yet or if I should wait a full 24 hours.

Three of my chicks are black and two have white dots on their heads. Does that mean rooster? They are Buff Orpington x Sussex OR Dominique. My other chick is buff. I'll post pics later.

I'm kind of worried that we might only get one. Has anyone introduced a chick to a non-broody silkie and had it go well? We have a hen that is the sweetest thing, but not broody at the time. I'd rather the hen take on the chick than buy one (we have others in the incubator) or carry it in my bra all day.
