Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Here is a picture of my eggs that I have going. The 8 that are in the middle of the pic are the ones I think are good. The ones closest I'm pretty sure won't hatch. This is what I woke up to today!! I have 3 eggs starting to hatch!

I'm guessing that I just can't count or these little ones are in a hurry to get here. So exciting! This is the third batch of eggs and we still get excited over them!

And the bottom of the thermometer is not correct. I have three of them in there and the other two are correct.

Welcome everybody !!! This is going to be so fun.

tammaclean - so exciting you have pippers already. I cant wait to see them

This is the start of day 4 for me. Setting eggs is the perfect way to slow time WAY DOWN in my opinion. Feels like I set them 2 weeks ago already !!!

Good luck everyone for great hatches

Tam, what sort of chickens are in those eggs? We are all excited for your early pippers! Rah, rah, come on little guys!

DD- if you think setting eggs makes time slow down... waiting for a pip to zip can feel like time has stopped!! It's so hard to just sit on my hands!

They are blue eggs and are supposed to be Ameraucanas. We shall see.....

I agree, DD wait till they pip. I've been going in my office(we now call the chicken room) about every 30 minutes to check on them.

My broody is being very stubborn. She hated my nice secluded broody set up in the garage. She flew out while I was at work and I found her upstairs in the loft. Put her back and covered the top and she still managed to get out. Then I put a dog cage in the broody pen and locked her in. She rammed the door enough time to jar the latch loose and got out AGAIN!

So I throw her in with the rest of the chickens and 20 minutes later she is back in one of the nest boxes in the coop and broody as could be. I can’t leave her in the nest box because she never comes back to the same box (I have 3 next to each other and they are raised off the ground.)

So I move the dog cage back in the coop to the same setup she used last year and moved her into the cage during the night. This morning she is off the next again and is trying to get out! I gave her a few white golfballs with her brown eggs thinking that maybe she is partial to white eggs. She seemed a little interested but I doubt she will be on the nest when I home.

I’m thinking that no matter what my Fertile eggs are no good any more after 10 hours on at night, 14 hours off during the day, 10 hours on at night and off again for the day.
SO frustrating!

Ack! That sounds terrible Pat! Maybe you could block off 2 of the nest boxes so she can only get into 1, that way she will always come back to the right one? Duct tape a board or something over the openings of the other two maybe... But you're right, the eggs probably aren't good unless it's really really hot where you are

Hi my name is Molly, I'm from Newcastle Calif and I'm a incubator addict  I would LOVE to be part of the hatch along...
Yesterday I set 10 Cooper Marans, 5 Cuckoo Marans and 14 Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.....:D

I was thinking of fencing off one of the nest boxes from the rest of the coop and put her own water and food in the fenced in area. Then she gets her nest box, she can only use one box, has room to eat and poop, and ther other chickens get the other 2 boxes. When/if the chicks hatch I will have to move them to a new coop.

She was much more flexible last year. Talk about a high maintence broody.

I am now up to 4 pipped eggs! And I hear chickies in all 4 so far.

I'm hoping to see more pipping from the other 4......
