Setting eggs 6/11 and 7/4 - Join me!

Congrats Tamma!!! Pictures!

Congrats Deanna! That's a lot of luck with turkeys! I am going to be hatching some of those beside my peacock eggs- I hope I am as lucky! They will be Bourbon red-royal palm mixes.

Welcome Aschen!! Most bantam breeds take 19 days instead of 21, but we'd have you along no matter when you set!

Rene, good luck stabilizing! I just had a fight with my old hovabator after not using it for a year, and I eventually gave up. It decided the heating element was either on (meaning inside it was 120+ degrees!) or off (meaning it was room temp).

I finally decided to just buy a new incubator. Unfortunately the TSC near me only sells LG bators... not my preferred hovabator. So I ended up buying one anyway, thinking "Well it's the same size as my other one, I can just use that turner instead of spending $45 on another turner." When I got home- WRONG! My hovabator turner is like a quarter inch too big

I was upset because I hadn't realized the bottom of the LG was so *shallow*- my hovabator bottom is a goof 4 inches deep at least, and this stupid LG is maybe an inch and a half. So after some frustrated contemplation (by which I mean staring at this incubator, frowning), I began to wonder if the bottom of my Hovabator would fit snugly *enough* against the LG top. So I grabbed the bottom of the hovabator, set it under the LG top- it isn't the best fit, but it'll hold 99.5 if I set it carefully, and was holding 50% humidity.

So now I have a tall top and a tall bottom- PERFECT for hatching my turkeys and peachicks! Whew!

So, since the eggs had been sitting since Saturday, I added the button quail eggs this morning. In 18 days I will hopefully have little squirts running around to give to my friend and the rest of my attention can turn to the eggs I get to keep. Commence waiting!!

Well I'm out. My broody will only sit on one of the egg laying nest boxes. She will have it no other way. I need new fertile eggs now and a new broody set up.

Good luck everyone on your hatches!

As of this morning I have 3 babies and one thats still trying. I very, very carefully took some of the shell off but left the membrane and wrapped it in a warm wash cloth. It's still pepping and moving so I'm still hopeful.

But we do have three. One does look like it might need "corrective shoes". It curls it's toes when it cuddles into itself. But it does walk normal so I think it will be okay.

Sort of dissapointed in the eggs I got. No more EBay eggs for me. I had 30 and only 3 maybe 4 hatch??? Not good. I'll stick to getting them from here!

I think I'll go check out the thread for Ameraucana's to compare my little ones. I do hope that I have at least one rooster and two hens or three hens......

Come on back if you get some before next week, Pat! I won't even be setting my second batch until then :) Wish I had purebred anything to send your way, but my peafowl eggs are booked for the next 3 weeks at least, and everything else is mixed!

Tamma, they are so adorable! I see a little beard on that white one in front!

My last one has hatched!! It needed just a little help not much though. Hoping they will all be okay. I will post a picture once they all have fluffed and dried. Now on to the Sizzle eggs..... They go on lock down the 24th.

Lucky lucky lucky!!! I am told turkeys are very difficult to hatch and keep alive... I can't wait to get home and have a little time to take pics of the eggs I set this morning in the dark :D Feels so good to be hatching again.

As an aside in the former discussion- my BF is an enabler as well... he rides along to bird swaps and offers to carry around the cages so I can hunt for things faster/better. Then he pretends to be sad he has learned enough about chickens and other fowl to understand what the signs say, or to know what the birds I am looking for look like when I just tell him on the way. He was a total city kid before he met me

Now he's reading books on beekeeping and planning coops for me

I told him he gets to name one from this hatch.

So now I have 4 little ones. I candled the last couple eggs in the incubator, just to check, and I thought I heard something. So my 15 year old daughter said to just put them back just to see. Sure enough 1 more started to pip! I just hope it will be okay....

Tam, what sort of chickens are in those eggs? We are all excited for your early pippers! Rah, rah, come on little guys!

DD- if you think setting eggs makes time slow down... waiting for a pip to zip can feel like time has stopped!! It's so hard to just sit on my hands!
I agree LOL !!!!
