Guess i have to get some more to out in. And have them collect every day. They left half of these in the nest hoping one of the hens would go broody... several were pecked and cracked. Have one more that I think is infected but is still moving right now...

Womanacat, those sure are disappointing numbers. I have had low hatch rates from locally purchased eggs also, it is very frustrating. My experience has been that a lot of times they aren't very fresh, because I am starting off with rather large air cells. My shipped eggs included quite a few like this also, I suspect part of my losses was due to the eggs being to old, and the air cells are more likely to rupture on those when shipped.

Mabhera, you are due to hatch a day ahead of me, so you should be locking down tomorrow. Good luck with your shipped eggs I hope you have a good hatch!

We are down to 13 our of the original 24, 11 out of 14 from one color and 2 out of 10 from the other. Nine eggs never showed any signs of development, and two quit around day 6. I hope I have a good hatch rate from those I have left, I would like to have at least a 50% hatch rate since these were shipped eggs.

Seems there are bad news for me. I candled last night. Of my 5 developing chicks only one or 2 seem to be doing ok. Maybe I am wrong because they are blue shell and dark but when I compare between them I see a big difference . The dark mass is bigger in the ones that seem ok. So I think the others are quitters. Really expensive eggs.
My eggs are another story. They are developing great.
On the bright side, my black copper marans started laying yesterday. I got them from shipped eggs. They are really dark layers. I see the eggs and I cant believe that I have hens that lay that dark. I see my incubator of expensive eggs not developing and see this first dark eggs and wonder if it's worth it...I'm so in love with the dark copper eggs that I am thinking they are.

Just2rosey Wish you luck with yours...I'm happy for your hatch and please share it with us. I need to get to hatch day....this waiting is killing me...

I hope they are still growing.

I had one last week that looked smaller and I thought it was a couple of days behind, but it hatched first while still in the egg turner. It was a staggered hatch from a broody hen, where the hatch took place over several days. Poor thing got stuck in the egg, the membrane didn't separate completely and I found him with just his leg and fluff sticking out of the shell, when I first looked in I thought the eggs was moldy, then it moved. Eggs and chicks can surprise you, I have had eggs th

that looked less developed hatch first many times. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised, don't give up hope yet.

Thanks a lot!!!....I'm not giving hope completly so they are still in the incubator. And thanks for sharing the pictures.....beautiful!!!! Want to hold some fluffy butts soon!!!

We go into lock down on Wed and I can not wait till this is all over. I also would like to get what I have heard called the Cherry egger, the one that lay the really dark brown eggs Cuckoo Maran I think is what they are. We are( that is my son and I) are working on an order for one of the hatcherys for next spring. I am also still waiting for my green egg layer to start to lay if she is going ot lay green eggs, she did come form a green egg but who knows. If they I got two every start I will be working on hatching some of them, I have a number to some on local that has easter eggers and I think the Cockoo Marans. hope to get some of them eggs next week.

LOCKDOWN!!

Good luck on your final countdown.

I lock down tomorrow nite. I borrowed a second incubator to store the six that are due the following sunday, I'm in the process of stabilizing the temperature, I think we got it right and tomorrow nighht we are going to do the move and then then lock down the current one with 12 eggs so far, I will candle them before lock down though. Really excited and looking forward to see our success rate

I forgot how much I HATE hatching shipped eggs! My eggs seem to be fading as I get closer to hatch.

When I candle the development seems further and further behind what it should be. The chicks are still moving, but seem to have stopped growing. I can see way to much light/ clear areas when I candle. I don't know what to think. I have hatched tons of my own eggs this year and have consistently had 100% hatch rates, even when I do everything I shouldn't like staggered hatches in one incubator. I have no idea how many of these little buggers are going to hatch, but I think I might be lucky to have six make it. If more hatch I think they will be late. There is nothing I can do but wait and pray.

I hope everyone else's eggs are doing alright.
