I did as a matter of fact have a series of really bad nightmares, although none of them involved snakes thankfully. As I went down to the coop to gather the eggs after the girls had gone out, I must have suprised a mouse that was enjoying their feed - it span out and a few rounds around inside the coop before disappearing, and I nearly pee'd my pants thinking it was a a snake

We got one to hatch, but I think something went wrong and I'm not sure it will make it. This afternoon about 1, there was just a tiny hole in the egg. About 5, the back legs were starting to come out. When we checked again at 8, the back half of the chick was out of the egg, but the head seemed stuck. I peeled off the egg and it was totally stuck to the chick :( He was all dried off already and opened his eyes as soon as I got the egg off. But he seemed unable to stand up or even turn over - was like a turtle stuck on his back, w/ his little legs pointing up, same position he'd been stuck in the egg.
Not sure what to do differently in the future - I know you shouldn't bug the broody mom too often, so didn't want to get her off the remaining eggs and hatching chick more than every few hours. But then how do you know if a chick needs your help? And I know that hatching is what makes them strong enough to live, so how do you know when it's ok to intervene?

2 more are cracking enormous holes in their eggs one is drying up i opened the incubator a few times to add water and move the eggs away from the chick and kept at 98.9 and 99 and humidity at 58 to 59 while it was opened and everything went back to 99.9 to 100 degrees and humidity 64 to 65

Ended up with two showgirls and three silkies from my batch of shipped eggs. I found that most of the eggs were shrink wrapped - a hard lesson learned. All but one had to be assisted in the hatch.
