Off topic but here is the buff Orpingtons I got last week

I have one BO/Game mix hen that I absolutely adore! They are the friendliest birds! I hatched some of her babies in my last hatch and am hoping for a few more hens from her!
Cool they are already friendly! When I put my hand in the tank they think it's a jungle gym lol. I have 2 tuna cans a roosting stick and a hanging bell in the tank when their not sleeping it's full time recess.

Good luck on your hatch. Friday I will be on my 14th day, first hatch ever also. I have some bantam cochin eggs that were shipped from Oklahoma to Sonora, CA. Tomorrow, Friday I'll candle and see where I stand.

Ty and hope yours are healthy too! Exciting being a mother hen lol loosing nails, hair and sleep!!!!

Yes Hockeydad you've got that right! Many things to worry about going wrong. I have tested 3 different hygrometers with the salt/water solution. They seemed to change when put in a heated incubator. One went back to Wal Mart, the other 2 are at different times 10 to 15% different at all times. Therefore, both being calibrated, which one do I believe? I guess I should have bought an egg scale and weighed the eggs or the whole tray, it would have been more reliable I think. I have 4 thermometers also, all different, but the aquarium one stays the same so I go by that one. I keep telling myself, this is suppose to be fun! It is exciting, I just worry too much.

Hi, I'm a newbie at hatching and I put on 20 bantam cochin eggs that were shipped from Oklahoma to Sonora, CA. Fri. morning 3/7. I also put in 4 of my BTW Japanese eggs to see if I could get something to hatch. So is day 1 24 hrs. later, Sat. or day 1 is just the morning you start them?

I had 5 detached air cells and all had weird saddled air cells. I candled at day 5 and pulled 1 clear and 1 blood ring. I left 3 questionables until day 14 I'll decide if they are bad I'll pull them.

I have 4 thermometers and 2 hygrometers. I took the Accurite back to Wal Mart because after calibrating it, it read the same as the one on my Farm Innovators Inc., 62* instead of 75*. But after it was in the inc. for 24 hrs., they were reading 10 degrees differently. I bought a nice one (I thought) online and calibrated it, it read 74* in the salt and water, it is an Ambient. Talk about excited! Well, 24 hrs. later, it is reading 10* lower than the one on the inc.. So what gives?

No 2 of the thermometers reads the same except my aquarium one and the little one on the piece of plastic that came with the inc. don't fluctuate like the others do. Unbelievable!

I am reading about humidity and what others do to incubate and have come to the conclusion that the humidity doesn't matter what you do as long as you watch your air cells and make sure they are growing. Some people keep theirs at 25 or 30% and others at 50% all the way through, both with forced air inc. and the chicks hatch out fine.

It's kind of mind boggling and a person could really get stressed out. I'm so thankful for spell check. LOL!
I agree...which day counts as day 1? Of mine, all 6 are still developing! I can see them moving around and it makes me so happy!!! :)

2 more days until lockdown here. I'm super nervous/excited.

We also had ordered some day old chicks and poults when we got our eggs. Which we pick up today!!!! To be honest, we were very skeptical about how our eggs would hatch, so we wanted to be prepared and have live chicks. Now, we have 37 eggs that appear to be doing great. I know things can go wrong at hatch, but holy crap if even half of those hatch and add to the 10 live chicks....we are gonna have a lot of chickens for first timers!!

Can't wait to meet our little babies today. We got 2 barred rock, 2 buff orp, 2 lavender orp, 2 white silkies, 2 gold laced Wyandotte, annnnnd 4 red bourbon poults. We are building a larger brooder this weekend....in case all those eggs hatch!

I may have gone a little overboard because I couldn't decide what chickens I wanted most!

If you get a lot hatched (potentially 30 or more depending!), you may want to sell a few. That's a lot of chicks to start out with! I did that last spring and completely overwhelmed myself with how much feed I was going through and time I was spending - cleaning up after them and handling them!
Just saying - even though I have 20 chicks right now and 42 eggs in the bator, so I'm not really one to talk!

LOL

Lol!! I was thinking the same! We just got home with the babies. Omg they are so cute. Hubby thinks I might have a hard time getting rid of any. The lady gave them to us all together but the poults are kinda bullies!! Maybe it's not bullying....but to me they look like they are picking on the chicks. So they've just been separated.
