Setting eggs on 6/9 and 6/11 who else? Come join in :)

I just set 8 more BCM, 4 Red Shouldered Yokohamas, 4 Ameracauna/Aracauna mixes and 2 silkie project eggs at about midnight on the 10th. I drove nearly 1000 miles round trip to pick up these eggs to avoid having them shipped (we made a family weekend getaway around it..it was fun and nice break). This will be my last set for a while...I currently have some that are set to hatch this weekend on Father's Day, then some more the following weekend and then finally these. Three weekends in a row of babies!!!

Sounds Great! I just had a great hatch last weekend and now on to this week and this weekend! So that will be a total of 1 last weekend and 2 this week!!!!!! This was my first time hatching last week how stressful lol.

Black Copper Maran is a color, but they lay the darkest chocolate eggs. My temp is around 99.8 and humidity is between 45%-55% I will candle on day ten, so the 16th. This is my second time, so I can say from experience, don't worry. It will all be fine. 10 out of 12 hatched. It was so easy! Just keep humidity at 65% to like 80% but on the higher side.

I brought my eggs back with me while on vacation, Trader Joe's eggs, 1500 miles. They spent 4 and a half days in a cooler with icepacks on the bottom. The temperature was @ 45 to 50 in the cooler. When I took them out they were a little wet with condensation so who knows what I'll end up with. I bought and set 4 dz. eggs. I know some will die from the trip but oh well.

Anyway, how did you handle your eggs on this trip?

I forgot to say, I set 4 dz eggs on June 10th.

We picked them up in the morning, it was quite cool...somewhere between 40 and 50 degrees. She had them in egg cartons and paper towels wrapped around the small eggs so they wouldn't shift in the egg cartons. We put them under the seat in my husbands truck. It was never hot at all along the way, in fact we drove over two mountain passes and had some rain. I don't think they ever got warm at all. I let them settle for a few hours and then candled them, they all looked good. They went into the incubator about midnight that night...She had collected them on the day before...so very fresh. :)

We did decide this morning that some of them, not the other eggs are going to the broody hen tonight. I will give my hen about 6 of the 18 I picked up. :)

I am curious to about your TJ eggs. We don't have them or Whole Foods in Wyoming. I think in some of the smaller towns there might be mom and pop groceries that sell eggs that could be fertile, but the nearest town here just has chain stores that at most have cage free eggs. Where the eggs you bought at TJ in a cooler or on the shelf?

Good luck with your hatch...can't wait to hear see pictures of what you hatched...are they all white?

I picked the eggs up out of a cooler at TJ in California and brought them all the way home. We live way out in the sticks with very few grocery stores near us. I've hatched the eggs that are sold in the local health food store although I got them from the people who have the chickens. She lives just down the road. They are Barred Rocks and my husband hates them. He does like leghorns so maybe these will be ok. I'll be selling or canning the BR after the fair. I hope to sell 6 in the fair, well, DS, will sell them if they sell.

Anyway, the TJ eggs are supposed to be a leghorn cross. I'm looking forward to candling the white eggs. I like the stamp on them that says, "Enjoy by June 30". They should hatch about then. :)

Where are you in Montana? Is your elevation high? I picked those eggs up in Idaho from a gal who is similar in elevation. I have had a problem with shipped eggs coming from sea level to our high elevation and drying out and the air sacs getting way to big, way to fast. I am trying to combat this by upping the humidity, more than I would on local eggs. It also doesn't help when the eggs get handled roughly and the air sacs detach! Arrrrgggggg

Well One of my Delaware x New Hamp Red just hatched 30 mins ago and more 6 more are pipping. I have 10 delaware x new hamp eggs and 2 BR eggs, 1 bantam egg, 1 bantam cochin egg in there. 1 bantam egg hatched last night and died

it did look like it was done cooking all the way it had a lot of blood in the shell and tummy area was kinda funny looking. So sad though it was so pretty looking to. I always get one bantam that hatches early and dies 1 out of every bunch. Does anyone else have same problem? So I will keep you all updated. Happy Hatching to Everyone!
