Setting eggs on 6/9 and 6/11 who else? Come join in :)

I have done the dry hatch, humidity ranging 25-30 until lockdown. I think this is why the membranes are so dry at hatch. At lock down I increase to 65-75. My 2nd hatch wasn't dry like this and I did 40-50 1st 18 days and then 65-70. I have 24 eggs in now but keeping humidity at 40-50 hope for better hatch not so dry.

Due to the loss of our rooster and five of our 11 hens to a predator the night of June 10th, we quit trying to break our broody hen of her broodiness and let her set on all eggs laid 06/11 (2), 06/12 (4) and 06/13 (4). I went out to take her off the nest to check for eggs laid by other hens today (she is not separated right now and takes all the others' eggs and puts them under her). Much to my surprise, there were two chicks underneath her!!!!! Yay!!!!! If I had known, I wouldn't have moved her, but no harm done it seems. Our roo was a buff cochin and our hens are easter eggers. I don't want to go to work tomorrow now. We just put a screen up over her level of nests so the others can't bother her. We will move all of them in a couple days to a different area of the coop. I wish we could move them now, but I'm worried it would affect the unhatched eggs. I just hope they will all be ok in the horrible heat this week! The first picture is the area we will have her in the next couple days til others hatch - we put a screen over it so others can't get in. Will this be ok or should we move them? I feel like it will be cramped for her, but she's hardly moved from there for 20 days so maybe a couple more will be ok?

Wow I just love it how cool. I would maybe leave her and add a fan to her hang it or use a chair and bungee rope thing to the chair, but if she looks sick maybe then move her take shovel a wide one and scoop up under neath it so you are not touching it to much and wear a gloves while doing it.

Aaaawww so cute and so glad you have some of your Roos babies to carry on, so nice. Lovely broody and babies. Good luck with the rest of the eggs!

Here is one of my 3 hatchling dark Brahmas. I made a point to bond with the hatchlings as soon as they come out of the shell and they attach to you so much better. My last hatch I didn't handle to much the 1st day or so and they are more flighty. I just love these dark brahmas, so cute with their little strips on their backs. Not a great pic. Have to get the camera out to get some good ones before they grow to much more.

What a cutie! I wish we had handled ours more the first day, but we do handle them now everyday putting them in the box to take them out for some fresh air. Momma insists on riding in the box with them:) When she is ready for them to go inside, she walks them over to the box. She ended up hatching 8 of the 10 eggs she was laying on! I was surprised. I was also shocked that 7 out of 10 eggs we had my coworker's daughter incubate for us hatched - they had been in the refrigerator 3-5 days. Four of the black orpington eggs his daughter was incubating also hatched so we have 19 chicks now. Momma hen took them all in and is doing such a good job with them.
