setting eggs on Thurs. Hatch date Feb 4th-who's with me??

Very cool bator and turner!

I candled this morning .. day 14. What a difference a few days make.

11 of 17 shipped eggs are alive (moving in the egg) .. including the 3 olive eggs I couldn't see into earlier

2 are clear
3 have funky looking aircells .. and nothing I could see moving
1 I think I see veining on .. but no movement.

The 12 local Marans eggs .....

I saw movement in at least 3 of them .. but, geeeez, they are hard to see into. They all have the same size aircell (smaller than the ee's). One of them I couldn't even find the aircell .. don't know if it was just so dark .. or it's clear ..

It was almost like putting a light up to a rock ..

I don't know why I'm putting it off, but I guess I'll throw the clear ones out when I lockdown. Unless I can smell them, I think I'm leaving the questionable one in there ..

Natalie, do you know why the Marans eggs have a much smaller aircell? I suspect it's because they are not as porous (also the reason they are harder to see through) so aircell grows slower than other colored eggs. ?

Some of my blue eggs have huge aircells already, and these Marans eggs have little ones .. but they are all the same (except for the one that I couldn't find an air cell at all)

Im in denial about my marans and will be chucking 4 out of 6 when I check tomorrow-they ahev been see through since day one so If I dont see obvious large dark spaces taken up out they go:-(

I gave up on candling the Marans eggs early on .. today I just decided to try one more time .. It WILL be like Christmas, huh?

Now I'm stressing over humidity .. I'm doing a "dry incubate" .. but that has been hovering between 30 and 40 RH. Today it was pretty close to 30 and I almost added water .. Maybe I should? Sounds like the Marans eggs may need it?
