setting eggs on Thurs. Hatch date Feb 4th-who's with me??

I candled last night. Day 14. Looks like all my blue coppers quit. And they looked like they shipped well. O well. I had 1 welsummer that was qustional, looked like pehaps a small crack, it was in the carton that had 3 other broken. But do have 12 welsummers that look great.

not sure about hte first question but

EE is EAster Egger-the hatcheries call them Amaracaunas but they are not. EE's are a blend of Amaracauna and another bird to produce colored egg. There are a few huge long threads on teh differences between the two very good reading:) Look under "breeds"

ouch good and bad news huh? well your still here and with healthy little growing babies so we are all good still:)

Thanks sonew123, after I asked the question it dawned on me "easter egger"... oh well.

Murry McMurrey Hatchery sells a vitamin and electrolight powder you put in the chicks drinking water. It's supposed to give them a head start in growing and keeping their immune system high. It's like $6.00 but I think shipping is high as well. Does anyone else add any vitamins to their chicks water at first to give them a boost?

Everything is quiet. What day do they start jumping around. I'm trying to keep myself from candling until Tuesday, Day 18 for me. I wish it was Tuesday.
I'm worried because it seems to easy, the temp has held between 99.5 to 99.6, the humidity stays in the 30 to 44% range, when it drops to 30% I add water.
I'm not sure how to get the humidity higher on days 19 to 21. Add water and close the vent and hope?

Good luck to everyone. Soon we should have pics!

YOu are one of the lucky ones then:) SOmetimes -like my last two hatches seemed really easy...sounds perfect...Humidity can be raised by adding warm water the temoof the bator use a thermometer to get it in that range and try and fill all water wells. If it does get as high as it should-put in a warm wet washcloth too..Thats what Ive have to do last hatch and it worked great. Its the surface area of water that raises the humidity not neccesarily the amount of water going in..You could have a big container of water in there and not be able to get it high enough-its how it is spread out in bator...dont close vents-at that tiem is when the chicks need more air to breath.

I never have..doesnt mean you cant though. It might be nice to have on hand just in case your chicks seem weak?

Day 18 for me too, I candled this morning and had to take out 3 more eggs all the others are doing good, Hope they hatch alright, I know I have my dates right and all the chicks are moving around in the eggs but it seems like there not taking up as much space in the shell as I remember the eggs did the first time I incubated eggs. HMMMM Does this mean that the chicks will be small, or hatch a little later maybe because of low temps or something. Any way all my chicks are Mutts from my own hens and roos, I have a few leghorn mixes, orp mixes, cochin mixes, 1 cuckoo Maran mix most of them were not fertile, and EEs, oh and 1 Barnevelder mix I kinda hope it was my Maran is the Daddy on that one. Im really hoping that my Salmon Faverolle is the Daddy to some of the EEs Im really curious as to what the chicks will look like. Good Luck to Everyone with coming babies.

I have a question .. seems simple enough ..

When ya'll move the eggs out of the turner for lockdown .. how do you do it?

Do you take the turner out of the bator with the eggs in it .. then return them to the bator in the cartons ( or lying down)

Do you candle them as you are putting them back in .. or do you get them all in and THEN candle them .. or do you candle them all first and THEN take them out of the turner and put them in the hatcher ..

I haven't quite decided on the logistics ....

This is what "I" do ..pull turner out-with eggs still on it and one by one or two if DD is helping and just place them on their sides-shut bator -fill bator with warm water-no candeling-I dont if they made to day 15 when I candle they stay in for the rest of the time. I then pop top on bator thats it for me-
