Setting eggs on Thurs. Nov. 10th - Any buddies? Hatch due Dec. 1st

Thanks!

Out of a total of 31 Araucana eggs that were set (between me and a friend), I got 3 chicks. But I had disappointing results from all my shipments of eggs. And so far, the eggs that I picked up locally haven't hatched any. I'm going to go back over my records to see if there's anything I did differently this time than the first time I hatched eggs - and I had great results then. This time, I got just a little over 10% hatch. I'm keeping the unhatched eggs in the bator another couple day - just to be sure there are no stragglers.

I don't have any roosters old enough to be a daddy yet. I've four araucanas that should be old enough to start laying and/or fertilizing within a month or so. I think I have two pullets and two cockerels - although it's hard to tell with Araucanas. So maybe I'll wait a couple months and try to hatch some of my own.

And I don't know how to sex any of the chicks. None of mine are auto-sexing.

I have wanted to order araucanas since I got my incubator, but I am afraid

I have heard how difficult they are to hatch. I found someone local with a flock but he has mixed his in with his other birds for the winter and won't be separating them till spring. I might just go ahead and bite the bullet and order a couple dozen to see how it goes.

Good luck! I sure hope you have better luck than I did. I want to try again because I think they're funny looking - and I love the pretty blue eggs. I may try again - especially if I can find some eggs. However, I won't be setting up the incubator again until the spring. I've got my brooder pen semi-full (only 8 chicks), my grow-out pen has 15, and my adult pen has 15. So I've got plenty of chickens for now! I may look around to find someone with chicks up to two weeks old to add to my 8 babies.

out of 4 eggs due today 1 was a dud early on and 1 hatched yesterday and one has finally pipped the shell and is rockin around I'm a little confused they are OEGB rooster is red pyle hen is a bbr and chick #1 looks blue ? and red right now I know I probably shouldn't be guessing at color yet but previously I've had either blackish chicks or yellow chicks out of these 2 this fluffer is bluish grey and yellow bellied lol any guesses what he/she will end up being ?

I had 25 in the bator at lockdown and 14 hatched on Wed and Thurs. 9 quiters as of today. They were fully developed with alot of yolk left but no pip and no movement. Here are the pics of my bouncing baby Black Australorps.

OMGosh!! I am so sad! We just got home from a friend house & one of my Dom babies was dead.

I don't know why or what happened?! They were all happy & playing when we left around noon today and the temp in the brooder is right around 93... I had a feeling she may pass but I'm still so sad, she was my baby. She was the smallest of the 6 chicks & the last to hatch & had to be helped out because of the way her head was like "pinned" down against her chest inside her egg... I just knew I should have stayed home today.

More than likely, even if you had been home, the chick would still have died. I'm so sorry, though, for your loss. It's sad to lose a little chick/
